The Forrest Lady Rockets came into Tuesday night's early season matchup versus 3A Franklin County undefeated and full of confidence and not much changed after a well fought 3-2 loss to the Lady Rebels.
"The second half was a good test for us, but I think the first half we came out kind of flat and sluggish," Forrest coach Nicole Pickle said. "But the second half we played more like we have been playing the last three games, they definitely steeped it up, so I'm proud of that. It's hard playing from behind."

Much like its football team, Cornersville's soccer team is made up of mostly underclassman, with just one senior to go along with a strong core of 10 juniors and the Lady Bulldogs are hoping to turn a better than expected 2015 season into a successful 2016 year ending with a deep run in the state playoffs.
The Lady Bulldogs (2-2, 2-1) faced its most trying test of the young season by welcoming perennial power Fairview (4-0, 4-0) into southern Marshall County and although the final score read 5-1 in the Yellow Jackets' favor, Cornersville outplayed the Williamson County squad for much of the contest but came up just short of the win.

Week Two was a wild affair with the Tennessee summer weather playing a huge role in the outcome of one football game, a revenge minded team checking off another goal with hard work and determination in a Saturday contest and finally a young team narrowly missing out on a huge upset before falling on the road.
Never before in Forrest history has a regular season game been decided like the one Friday night at Chapel Hill as the Rockets ran six plays before an electric storm encircled most of Middle Tennessee, causing the cancellation of the contest with an agreement by both the Moore County and Forrest coaches that the Rockets would be awarded the win.

Nobody close to the Forrest football program can remember anything like this ever happening before as the Rockets claimed a 7-0 win after running just one offensive series before a huge weather system that contained dangerous lightening engulfed most of Middle Tennessee Friday night, including Chapel Hill.
After an initial hour and a half delay, both teams took the field, but it was short-lived as more lightning was detected nearby and the TSSAA referee crew sent the squads back to the locker room.

Last season Marshall County (2-0) went into the 4A playoffs just one point away from an unblemished regular season with a one-point loss to 6A John Overton (1-1), but with hard work and determination from the players during the off season the Tigers would not allow the same story to unfold Saturday night in Lewisburg by beating the metro Nashville school 33-19.

One of the hardest feats to accomplish in the game of football is stringing together two productive contests with minimal down time in between and that rule was proven once again on Tuesday night as the Lewisburg Middle School Tigers fell big, 44-14, to Harris Middle School just four days after a two point loss to West Wilson.

The Forrest Lady Rockets, coming off a tough 3-3 tie with 3A Wilson Central hosted longtime foe Cascade Tuesday at the Lions Club Memorial Field and the Chapel Hill girls easily outdistanced the Lady Champions 5-1.
"It think personally we had a much better first half than we did the second half, but I am proud of the girls, we don't really have a lot of subs," first-year Forrest coach Nicole Pickle said.

The three county gridiron squads all have tough games in Week Two as the Marshall County Tigers and the Forrest Rockets host John Overton and Moore County respectively, while the Cornersville Bulldogs make the long trek to Wayne County where they will take on the Collinwood Trojans.
The Tigers, coming off a big 49-6 thrashing over Franklin County last week have revenge on their mind when they entertain the Bobcats from Nashville this week at Preston Hopkins Field in Lewisburg.

The Cornersville Bulldogs hosted Mt. Juliet Christian Academy Friday night in a soggy Frog Bottom and the two squads battled for two overtimes before the Knights came out on top 20-17.
"This was a very tough and physical football game that we played on Friday night and I was pleased with the effort and fight that the guys showed throughout the game," Cornersville coach Gerard Randolph said. "The guys battled to the last whistle and I was proud of that. You never want to lose a game, and by no means am I happy with the loss, but this game showed what type of team we want to be, and that's a tough and physical football squad without all the turnovers."

After a big opening season 35-12 win over Manchester, the FMS Rockets lost their home opener 22-18 to a very good Fayetteville squad.
"We just didn't execute very well, I mean there were a couple of play calls that I would like back," FMS coach Corey Searcy said. "The guys played hard for the most part, we knew what was coming but just didn't execute and that falls back on me."

The Forrest defense held Taylor to 73 yards rushing on 16 carries and forced him to fumble three times in the season opener at Murrey E. Holton Memorial Field in Chapel Hill.
