The Cornersville Bulldogs travelled to Collinwood Friday night and gave the Trojans all they had in a heartbreaking 8-7 loss.

The Bulldogs only score of the game came in the first quarter when Payton Cooper tossed a 76-yard touchdown pass to Cameron Whittaker.

The Bulldog defense, which has allowed only two touchdowns in regulation kept Collinwood off the board until a third quarter turnover put them in a tough spot.

Cornersville's offense gave Collinwood two points when a bad snap at its own 12-yard line went out of the end zone, cutting the lead to 6-2.

The kick after the safety gave the Trojans the ball at the Cornersville 45-yard line and they marched down the field, scoring on a Kyle Kelly 5-yard run with 2:46 remaining in the third period.

The Bulldogs could not muster up a comeback and fell to 0-2 on the season.

Cornersville opens up Region 4A play Friday night when they travel to Grace Christian Academy of Franklin for a 7 p.m. kickoff.

The Lions lost their season opener 34-33 to McEwen.
