COLUMBIA, Tenn. -- On Thursday, June 6, Rogers Group, Inc. presented the 17th Annual J.R. Moon Golf Classic hosted by Columbia State Community College at the Saddle Creek Golf Club. "Each year, this tournament allows us to provide scholarships to students who attend the Lewisburg campus," said Molly Cochran, director of alumni and community relations at Columbia State. "We are fortunate to have a fantastic committee that works hard to make this tournament a huge success every year." more
Marshall County Medical Center (3-1, 2-1) reeled off their third straight win on Tuesday night by defeating A-Plus Collision Center 6-5 in six innings at Jonathan D. Hollingsworth Memorial Park. A-Plus Collision (2-2, 1-2) held a 2-1 lead through the first two innings of play, but Marshall Medical Center tallied four runs in the bottom of the third to seize a 5-2 lead before staving off a couple of rally attempts by APCC to hang on for the victory. more
The Elks (3-1, 2-1) handed Nichirin their second straight close loss on Tuesday afternoon when they defeated the defending champs 4-3 in six innings at Jonathan D. Hollingsworth Memorial Park. Nichirin (1-3, 1-2) appeared to be in good shape early on and held a 3-0 lead through the first three innings of play. The Elks then saw the momentum swing to their dugout shortly after that point, as they crossed home plate four times in the top of the fourth inning to seize a 4-3 advantage before starting pitcher Wilson Limbaugh held Nichirin scoreless the rest of the way to claim the one-run victory. more
The Saddle Creek Men's Golf Association (MGA) opened up their tournament schedule on Sunday with a field of 28 golfers paired up in foursomes. The format was one low ball, two low balls, and three low balls. The first six holes were to be scored by the lowest score by a single player in the foursome, while holes seven through 12 were the combined low score of two of the golfers in the foursome. more
The Marshall County Wrestling Club (MCWC) was able to send twelve wrestlers to the TN AAU State Wrestling Tournament in their second season of competition, which was an improvement over last year's number of six wrestlers. Eli Bell, Creek Anderson, Nick McClendon and Seth McCoy all finished in the Top Ten. The two tournament standouts were McClendon earning seventh place and McCoy finishing fifth. more
The Discovery Gymnastic optional team Levels 7, 8, 9, and Excel Gold have been very busy during their 2013 competition season. After traveling to Ozone Invitational (Knoxville), USA Invitational (Gallatin), and Sparkle City Invite (Spartanburg, S.C.) the team has brought home several team trophies and many individual medals as well. more
The Discovery Gymnastics Compulsory teams competed at the Music City Invitational in November. This is a huge competition with over 700 gymnasts from more than 30 different gyms throughout six states. The Level 3, 4, and 5 teams from Discovery all participated at the meet held in Cool Springs. The Level 3 team was awarded second place in their session, the Level 4 team received ninth place, and the Level 5 team received eighth place in their sessions. Several gymnasts received top three finishes. more
Anyone and everyone who has been associated with baseball in the middle Tennessee area over the last several decades sooner or later hears the name "Don Rhoton." The name "Don Rhoton" is synonymous with the word "baseball" and on January 19, 2013 coach Rhoton will officially become a distinguished member of the Tennessee Baseball Coaches Hall of Fame. more
The Cornersville Youth Football League finished up a great season with an Awards Day on Nov. 18 in the Cornersville High School auditorium where everyone received a trophy. The CYFL is part of the Duck River Valley Youth Footbal League which includes Cascade, Chapel Hill, Columbia Academy,Community, Eagleville, Flintville, Liberty, Middle Tennessee Christian School, and Moore County. more
The Marshall County Wrestling Club (MCWC), founded by Nashville native Chris Posey, opened last year in Chapel Hill and found instant success, amassing 97 total team wins, 41 total team pins and 38 total team medals in 2011. Three club members (Seth McCoy, Dominick Thompson, and Wes McCoy) won medals at the Tennessee State Tournament and two others (Dominick Thompson and Willy Salsman) garnered medals in the Spring AAU National Championship Tournament. more
Standings Eagles 31 Warriors 7 The Eagles fumbled on their first possession with Camren Hazel getting the recovery for the Warriors. The Warriors fumbled it back to the Eagles with Xavier Mosley covering up the loose ball. This time the Eagles offense got rolling and Demari Braden got into the endzone on a 52 yard TD run to make it 6-0. ... more
Marquay Allen recovered a Warriors fumble on their first possession and Antwon Cowthorn put the Packers on the scoreboard on the next play going 42 yards for the TD. Khalil Hill added the extra point run to make it 7-0. The Warriors took a 10 play drive down to the Packers 34 yardline before turning it over on downs and the score would remain 7-0 at halftime. Camren Hazel then opened up the 2nd half for the Warriors covering up a Packers fumble and on the next play Marcus O'Neal put the Warriors on the scoreboard with a 14 yard TD. Markese Davis added the extra point run and the game was tied at 7-7. more
On Sunday, Dec. 11, 2011, Lewisburg and Marshall County lost one of its great native sons and beloved golfer, Jeff Jones. Jones was an ambassador of golf in our community and spent endless hours at the Recreation Center practicing, playing, and in fellowship, with the many patrons that play at the Ewell Butler Golf Course. more
In May of 1991, Jonathan D. Hollingsworth was tragically killed playing the sport he loved, baseball. For the past 21 years, his father Danny has perpetuated his memory by hosting a golf tournament, where the proceeds go to the Jonathan D. Hollingsworth Scholarship Award that is presented to a Marshall County High School baseball player to help with college tuition. more
The Columbia based Discovery Gymnastics compulsory teams have kicked off their 2012 competitive season with gymnasts competing at Level 3, Level 4, and Level 5 compulsory teams. These girls are a very dedicated group and spend several hours every week and all year long practicing. The Level 3 team gymnasts by age are Ainsley Howard (6), Brooklyn Hanson (7), Mackenzie Whitmire (7), Victoria Kirscht (8), Emma Barberi (9), Kiley Nutt (10), Mary Elise Lynch (10), and Cadi Webster (11). more
