Marshall County High School senior lineman Jay Murphy followed his older brother Michael into the college football ranks on Wednesday morning when he signed a letter of intent in the MCHS auditorium to play at the University of Tennessee-Martin. Murphy had originally committed to Tennessee State University last April and was being recruited by the Tigers as center, but the recruiting process took a late twist for the Marshall County standout when UT-Martin managed to sway him towards their program during an official visit 10 days ago. more
Forrest grad savors every second at UT Some people never get to realize their dreams, but Forrest graduate Matthew Delk is living his out every day for at the University of Tennessee as the special teams manager for the 'Big Orange'. "It's a humbling experience and I'm so excited to get up and go work for the football team every day," said Delk. "People who know me can tell you how big of a super fan I am. I am still in awe when I get to the stadium or the football complex." more

(AP) -- Tennessee wide receiver Alton "Pig" Howard says he has received only positive feedback since fumbling in overtime Saturday while trying to stretch the ball across the goal line in the Volunteers' 34-31 loss to No. 7 Georgia. "Not one person came to me saying anything negative about it," Howard said Tuesday night while talking to the media for the first time since the game. "I've been getting all positive talk. Former Bulldog's dream comes true Former Cornersville High School quarterback / linebacker Joe Stocstill is living his dream of playing football for the Tennessee Volunteers. Prior to attending Tennessee, he was on his way to having an outstanding football career. While in high school, Stocstill received several accolades including 2010 All Region 1A, 2010 Murphy Fair Preseason 1A All-State, 2010 preseason TN Football Coaches Association Class 1A All-State Team and finishing the year on the TN Football Coaches Association 1A All-State team. more

Former Cornersville teammates face off on college diamond Former Cornersville High School softball standouts Haley Fagan and Makenzie Hopkins faced off on the collegiate stage for the first time on Saturday afternoon when Fagan's Chattanooga State Lady Tiger squad traveled to Moore County and defeated Hopkins and the Motlow State Lady Bucks 7-2 in the first game of doubleheader. Buoyed by four homeruns and a solid pitching performance from Fagan, Chattanooga State built a 7-0 lead through the first six and a half innings of play before the Lady Bucks tallied two runs in the bottom of the seventh to spoil the Lady Tigers' shutout bid. more

Off the court, she would give time and attention to others before even thinking of herself. Senior Rachel Wolfe started her competitive tennis career the summer before her freshman year of high school. Tennis became her passion and an outlet for her stress. more
Although Vanderbilt has endured some tough times on the basketball court this season, former Marshall County High School star Kedren Johnson is turning in a solid sophomore campaign for the Commodores. After losing all five starters and a key sub from last year's team that posted a 25-11 record and advanced to the round of 32 in the NCAA tournament, Vanderbilt currently holds a 9-13 mark this season and has won just three of 10 games in SEC play while having no seniors and only two juniors on their roster. more
Columbia State Community College will tip off the 2012 basketball season with new interim head coaches for both the men's and women's teams. Brian Collins has arrived on campus as the men's interim head coach from Cumberland University in Lebanon where he was an assistant coach since 2009. Collins, a 2006 graduate of Belmont University in Nashville, was a 6th round draft into the National Basketball Developmental League, playing the 2006-2007 season for the Kouvot Bears, Finland's team. more

For Marsalis Holloway, it was the combination of raw talent and Columbia State Community College that made him a 34th round pick for the Kansas City Royals. Holloway, a Dominion Christian high school graduate, originally signed with Darton College out of High School and he readily admits it was a mistake. more

Former MCHS Tigerette and current Columbia State Community College speedster Brandie Jett is having a red-hot year at the plate, batting .527, which leads the Lady Chargers (28-14) and ranks seventh in the nation among National Junior College Athletic Association hitters. Through 40 games and 129 at bats, Jett has 68 hits, 33 runs scored, 17 RBIs, 7 doubles, and 3 triples. more
Rachel Wolfe, a 2009 graduate of Marshall County High School, earned TranSouth Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week honors, as the RedHawks went 2-2 for the week with victories over Tennessee Wesleyan and Xavier University. MMC's two losses came against top-ranked Auburn Montgomery and 10th-ranked William Carey. more
