The Marshall County Tigers celebrated Senior Day in style, as they pummeled District 7-A-AA foe Fayetteville 11-3 on Monday night in Lewisburg.

Having defeated Fayetteville 4-1 in their previous encounter on April 7 at the Franklin County tournament, Marshall County (8-4-2, 4-2 District) put almost constant pressure on FHS goalie Nick Landers in Monday's contest and outshot Fayetteville 41-16 overall.

"This was the best that we've executed all year. We played our younger guys a lot and they performed well," said MCHS coach Lisa Raffo. "We had played them already this season so we were able to prepare for what they wanted to do."

Lead scorer

Junior striker Luis Zarate spearheaded the Tigers' offensive onslaught by scoring three goals and dishing out two assists. Jose Pineda followed Zarate with two goals, while Ivan Leyva, Luis Consuelo, Marvin Jaimes, David Martinez, Renato Leon, and Ben Jordan all tallied one goal with Leyva, Consuelo, and Jaimes each registering an assist. Edwin Jaimes and Misael Alvarez both notched one assist for Marshall County as well.

In net, Marshall County goaltender Evan Haislip finished with 11 saves.

Drew Bradford paced Fayetteville (1-6-1, 1-3-1 District) with two goals and an assist, while Isaiah Thompson added one goal. Landers, meanwhile, recorded 21 saves overall.

No waiting

The Tigers wasted no time getting on the board, as Zarate took a pass from Leyva in the middle of the field and blasted a low line drive through Landers' hands and into the right side of the net to give MCHS a 1-0 advantage two minutes into the contest.

Marshall County stretched their lead to 2-0 in the 13th minute when Martinez lined a 30-yard direct kick from the middle of the field just underneath the top post of the FHS goal.

The Tigers struck again a few moments later, as Consuelo took a pass from Marvin Jaimes on the right side of the field and fired a low line drive inside the far post to make it 3-0 in the 14th minute.

MCHS then tallied another goal in the 15th minute to push their lead to 4-0. After making a run down the middle of the field, Zarate drew Landers out of the net before dishing the ball off to Marvin Jaimes, who chipped a close range shot into the empty goal.

Stronger lead

In the 34th minute, the Tigers opened up a 5-0 advantage when Pineda rifled a 15-yard shot into the right side of the net after receiving a pass from Zarate in the middle of the field.

Following a FHS hand ball in the goalie box, Leon extended Marshall County's lead to 6-0 by calmly lining the penalty into the upper left hand corner of the net in the 36th minute.

Bradford kicked in a rebound from point blank range in the 40th minute to trim the deficit to 6-1 at the break before scoring on a direct kick five minutes into the second half to narrow the gap to 6-2.

Zarate, though, swung the momentum back to MCHS' side in the 54th minute when he took the ball down the middle of field and fired a low, skidding shot into the left corner of the net from 12 yards out to stake the Tigers a 7-2 advantage.

More scores

After Leyva headed in a crossing pass from Edwin Jaimes in the 60th minute to increase Marshall County's lead to 8-2, Zarate took a pass from Consuelo in the middle of the field and hammered home a 12-yard shot in the 62nd minute to make it 9-2.

Thompson lined a close range shot past Haislip in the 65th minute to cut the deficit to 9-3, but Pineda fired a low line drive into the right corner of the net in the 69th minute after receiving a pass from Alvarez in the middle of the field to widen the Tigers' lead to 10-2.

Jordan then capped Marshall County's 11-3 victory by blasting a 45-yard direct kick from the left side of the field just underneath the top post of the Fayetteville goal.
