After turning in a shaky performance in their last match against Franklin County and Fayetteville five days earlier, the Marshall County Tigers golf team righted the ship on Tuesday when they defeated the Spring Hill Raiders at Kings Creek Golf Club.

Near goal
"I was pleased with how we played. We wanted to shoot 148, but we shot 150 and that's close to our goal," said Marshall County coach Alex Phelps. "It was a good bounce back performance for us. We struggled in our last match, but we've worked on some of our weak points since then."
Having recorded the best round for MCHS in three of the Tigers' four previous matches, senior Brooks Leftwich continued his strong play and helped lead Marshall County to the win by shooting a one-over par 34.
"Brooks is our captain for a reason. I expect him to be the low man every match and he's lived up to my expectations," said Phelps.
Marshall County had three other players also break 40 on the day, as Patrick Kennedy carded a 38, while Zach Smith and Wilson Limbaugh both fired a 39. Davis George tallied a 43 for MCHS as well.
Girl leads Raiders
Since MCHS did not have a girls team to compete against, two-time State Tournament qualifier Libby Coop gave the Raiders a helping hand and shot a 41 to pace Spring Hill.
"I think she gets even more competitive when she faces guys. She's competitive in practice, but she ramps up her game in the matches. It's really good for her because she has to make some tougher shots when she plays from the white tees," said Raider coach John Duncan. "She has pretty good odds of making it to the State Tournament again. She's got a coach and is working on her swing so that should give her better fundamentals for the long term."
Noah Gibson followed Coop with a 43, while Eric Binkley and Brandon Sanchez notched a 44 and a 45 respectively.
After facing Cascade and Shelbyville on Thursday at Saddle Creek Golf Course, the Tigers will take on county rivals Cornersville and Forrest in the first leg of the Gary Wells Cup on Monday at the Henry Horton State Park.
