The Marshall County Tigers played some inspired golf Monday at the District 11A/AA Tournament at Henry Horton State Park, coming within just two shots of dethroning defending champion Cascade.
"We are disappointed that we didn't win," said MCHS head coach Brent Johns. "But, we are excited about the opportunity to play for a region championship on Monday."

The Tigers finished with a 337 four-player, cumulative score, while the Champions eked out the title with 335.
The Summit Spartans finished in third place at 359, while local teams Forrest (370) finished fourth and Cornersville (440) came home in ninth place.
The top two teams advanced to the Region 6A/AA Tournament on Monday at the Lawrenceburg Country Club.
Lefty Chad Gordon led the way for Cascade, shooting a clean three-over par 79, while Lucas Dunnivant carded an 84, Tanner Burks came home with an 85, Bryce Clinton shot 87 and Jake Pimental struggled home with a 90.
Cascade head coach Chad Gordon said about the back-to-back titles, "My kids have such high standards, they didn't shoot the scores they have been all year, but they still did enough for us to win it again."
The Tigers' lone senior Miller Sale tied with teammate Austin Blade for low round on MCHS with identical 82s, while Brooks Leftwich carded an 86, Carson Hill was one shot back of Leftwich with an 87 and Wilson Limbaugh needed 96 strokes to get around the Buford Ellington Golf Course.
Blake Tansil led the Rockets with an 82, Gary Lukonen came home in 88 strokes, Austin Nichols shot a 91, Hawken King signed for a 109 and Ty Hoeft swung or putted 114 times.
Tate Lowery was low man for the Bulldogs, shooting an 85, while Jacob Griffis shot a 101, Matthew Karban carded a 126, Colby Downs shot 128 and Taylor Carlton ballooned to a 135.
In the individual portion of the tournament, the five top medalists were Eagleville's Dakota Beech (75), Gordon (79), Tansil (82), Blade (82) and Sale (82).
All five medalists advanced to the individual portion of the region tournament.
Tansil, Blade, Sale and Community's Zack West went out in a four-man playoff that lasted two holes to determine the final three medalists' spots.
West, along with Lowery (85) and Lukonen (88) picked up the final three wildcard spots at the region.
On the girls' side, Eagleville (211) captured a two-stroke win over Fayetteville City (213) with Brooklyn Snell leading the Lady Eagles with a 101, while Nicole Duke shot 110 and Kayla Stiles carded a 134.
Caitlyn Plunkett was low women for the Lady Tigers with a 104 and Summer Shelton shot 109.
Summit finished in third with a 215 score, Cascade was fourth with a 231, while the Forrest Lady Rockets finished in fifth place at 278.
Maria Harris led Forrest with a 139 and Caitlin Burt and Dani Hoeft tied at 140.
Page's Jessica Zweifel won the top medalists spot with a sweet 78, Snell was second, Anna Horn from Summit came in third and Fayetteville City teammates Plunkett fourth and Shelton fifth.
Forrest's Burt and Harris picked up wildcard spots for the region individuals.
