LEWISBURG — Just about everything fell Marshall County’s way as the Tigers won their third-straight, beating Hume-Fogg in blowout fashion on Thursday night, 19-2.
The Tigers showcased discipline at the plate and hammered the Hume-Fogg pitching in the first frame to the tune of nine runs on three base hits, five walks and three batters hit by pitch.
Marshall County padded its lead with a 10th run in the second inning on an error and scored again when Trey Warner ground out to second, stretching the Marshall County lead to 11-0.
Bailin Luttrell got the start and pitched the first two innings for Marshall County, striking out five batters and not giving up a hit, before Grayson Miller took over in the third.
Miller kept the scoreless trend alive as he pitched two innings of scoreless baseball, while striking out two.
While the Tiger pitchers were dealing on the mound, Marshall County continued to hammer the scoreboard and scored a 12th run of the game in the bottom of the third when Eli Cross ground into a fielder’s choice.
But another monster inning by Marshall County came in the bottom of the fourth when the Tigers tacked on seven more runs in the fourth.
Much like the first inning, the Tigers were selective at the plate, but made their swings count.
Warner doubled after Colton Flick drew a leadoff walk to plate the first run of the inning.
But the next two Tiger runs came off Hume-Fogg errors and then plated two more runs on bases-loaded walks, to take an 18-0 lead.
The 19th run of the game came when Thomas Beech ground into a fielder’s choice in the fourth.
Hume-Fogg did manage to plate two runs in the top of the fifth, but couldn’t make much more of a dent in the massive Marshall County lead.
In total, the Tigers connected on just six hits, but were led by Warner, who went 1-for-2 and drove in three runs in the night.
Luttrell also drove in three runs on a 2-for-3 night.
The Tigers open a two-game series against Tullahoma on Monday night at 6:30 p.m.
