Tigers falter in final minutes

LEWISBURG — For nearly three quarters, the Marshall County Tigers held their own against the Cascade and at one point, held a 17-point advantage.
But a dry spell on the offensive end of the court in the fourth quarter saw the Champions rally on a 22-8 run to stun the Tigers on their home floor, 60-54.
Throughout the first half, Devonte Davis was a driving force for the Tigers on the offensive end of the court.
Davis was nearly perfect shooting and scored 19 of his game-high 21 points in the first half, including a pair of triples.
A.J. Jones added two 3-pointers for the Tigers as well.
While Davis was the key source of offense for Marshall County, Cascade disperse 16 points among six different players in the opening frame and connected on four treys to open the game.
The game’s pace slowed significantly into the second quarter for the Champs as Cascade managed just two field goals.
Meanwhile, Marshall County continued firing on all cylinders and Davis added another nine points, while Jones and Omarion Alred both connected on 3-pointers.
The Tigers added another 19 points in the second quarter and held a 38-23 lead at the break.
But while Cascade struggled with foul issues in the first half, the script flipped in the second half and it was Marshall County that became plagued with fouls.
In turn, Cascade took advantage of the time at the free throw line and in the second half alone, connected on 13-of-19 tries at the charity stripe.
That stoppage on the clock allowed Cascade to complete the 17-point rally and hold on for the six-point victory.
As a team, the Tigers hit six treys, three of which came from Jones, who scored 12 points.
Cascade’s one-two punch of Justis Carter and Lucas Clanton combined for 35 points to help guide Cascade to the come-from-behind win.
