Tigers edge short-handed Cornersville in tri-match

LEWISBURG — In a tri-match hosted by Marshall County High School, the Tigers were able to defeat cross-county rival Cornersville, 36-24, but suffered a 42-6 defeat at the hands of Spring Hill.
With Cornersville having a limited roster that featured just four wrestlers, the Bulldogs were able to pick up a handful of wins against Spring Hill to get the tri-match started. 
Cason Warner pinned his opponent from Spring Hill just 51 seconds into the match for the first Cornersville victory.
Joshua Bennett followed with a win at the 106-pound weight class when he pinned Payton Miller with 6.5 seconds left in the second round. 
The Bulldogs suffered their first loss of the night when Jonathan Zuniga dropped a 10-3 decision to his Raider opponent. 
The final match between Cornersville and Spring Hill came at the 182-pound weight class and despite a solid effort, Xavier Viazcan was defeated via pin in the first period.
After the initial four matches between Cornersville and Spring Hill, the Tigers got their shot at the Raiders.
Eli Alexander got the home team started on a high note, pinning James Hughes 17 seconds into the first period to give the Tigers a win at the 220-pound weight class.
But after Alexander’s win, the Raiders rattled off seven-straight wins via pin to run away with the 42-6 victory. 
In the final head-to-head team matchup of the night saw a much closer final score between Marshall County and Cornersville, with the Tigers hold on for a 36-24 win.
All four Bulldog wrestlers claimed wins via pin over their Tiger counterparts.
Bennett, Zuniga, Viazcan and Warner all earned six points for Cornersville by pinning their respective opponents.
But Marshall County was able to add several victories via forfeit and claimed the team victory.
