Having defeated Moore County (3-2)and Warren County (9-3) the previous evening, the Marshall County Tigerettes completed an undefeated run through pool play at the Lincoln County Border Battle on Saturday morning when they defeated tournament host Lincoln County 6-1 in five innings.

After MCHS (15-6) built a 3-0 lead through the first three innings of play, the Lady Falcons cut the deficit to 3-1 in the top of the fourth before the Tigerettes tacked on three more runs in the bottom of the fifth to claim their seventh straight victory.

"I told the girls that it's about time we started putting things together. We've done that over the last week and last night," said Marshall County coach Holly Cook. "We starting to get some timely hits and making some big defensive plays."

'Great job'

Tigerette starting pitcher Jacey Perryman turned in one of her better performances of the season and picked up the win in the circle after yielding one unearned run in five innings of work on five hits and two walks.

"Jacey did a great job. She kept them off balance and hit her spots. She did what she needed to do," said Cook.

Marshall County, meanwhile, finished with nine hits and a walk against Lincoln County starting hurler Brooke Mann to go along with two hit batsmen and a Lady Falcon error.

Madison Hargrove (2 RBI), Ashton Watkins, and second baseman Mecia Reed notched two hits apiece to lead the Tigerettes offensive attack.. Perryman (2 RBI), Mary Kate McGehee (1 RBI), and Austyn Whaley each had one hit for MCHS as well.

Holley Gray doubled to account for Lincoln County's lone extra base hit of the contest, while Lauren Hunter, Taylor Ferguson, Lauren Reese, and Mann all singled.

Foe stopped

The Lady Falcons had a chance to take the lead early in the game when they put runners on first and second base with no outs in the top of the first thanks to singles from Hunter and Reese, but Perryman retired the next three Lincoln County batters on a fielder's choice, a pop out, and a groundout to escape the inning unscathed.

Marshall County then took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning when Morgan Moyers raced home on a passed ball after being hit by a pitch and advancing to third on a Madison Thomason sacrifice bunt and a groundout by Watkins.

In the bottom of the second, the Tigerettes tallied an unearned run to open up a 2-0 advantage. After reaching base on an error, Hargrove advanced to second on a Reed single before racing home on a RBI single by McGehee.

Staying ahead

The Lady Falcons appeared they might cut into the deficit in the top of the third when Ferguson tried to score on a double by Gray after singling with two outs, but Reed gunned down Ferguson at the plate to maintain MCHS' two-run cushion.

Marshall County continued to pad their lead in the bottom half of the third and pushed across a run to make it 3-0. Following singles by Watkins and Whaley, both runners moved up 60 feet on a passed ball before Hargrove plated Watkins with a RBI infield single.

Lincoln County scored a run in the bottom of the fourth with the help of an error, a hit batsman, and a RBI fielder's choice by Taylor Boyett to trim the deficit to 3-1, but the Tigerettes crossed home plate three more times in the bottom of the fifth on a Hargrove RBI single and a two-run single by Perryman to cap their 6-1 triumph.
