LEWISBURG — The Marshall County Tigerettes and Tullahoma Lady Wildcats battled in a dandy of a district matchup on Thursday night, but in the end, Tullahoma came through with a pair of runs in the top of the seventh to steal an 8-7 win from the Tigerettes.
Off the bat, Tullahoma drove in the first run of the game following a lead off double and a RBI single for the early 1-0 lead.
The Tigerettes answered with a leadoff double of their own by Courtney Lynch in the bottom of the inning.
She stole third and eventually scored when Mallory Woodward ground out.
The double frenzy continued as the Lady Wildcats led off the second with another two-bagger that eventually came around to score for a 2-1 lead in the inning.
Things continue to spin in the visitors’ favor with two more runs in the third and fourth.
Facing a 6-1 deficit, the Tigerettes’ bats got going in the fourth inning.
After a ground out and a strikeout, Marshall County saw Reese Lentz single to right and later score on a Kinley Wiser single.
Things took an interesting turn in the fifth inning, as Marshall County further cut into the Tullahoma lead.
Demiyah Blackman reached via error to lead off and Haylee Hobby and Kaniyah Taylor doubled and singled, respectively, to reach base.
Hobby’s double scored Blackman for the first run of the inning.
Hobby later scored on a sac-fly by Brittany Lynch and Taylor scored when Kori Lyttle ground out, cutting the Lady Wildcat lead to just one run.
Marshall County eventually took the lead in the bottom of the sixth after Wiser reached via walk and scored the tying run on an error.
Blackman crossed the plate on the go-ahead run on a Lady Wildcat error.
Leading 7-6, Marshall County needed just three outs to hand Tullahoma a key district loss.
But as quickly as the Tigerettes were able to get the lead, a two RBI single put the Lady Wildcats back in front for good in the top of the seventh.
Hobby, who got the start in the pitcher’s circle, led the Tigerettes at the plate with a 2-for-3 night, while Lentz added two more base hits as well.
Hobby pitched three innings and gave up six runs on 10 hits before Brookelyn Nunley and Courtney Lynch worked in relief.
Nunley pitched three innings and gave up one hit, but didn’t allow any runs to cross, while Nunely pitched one inning and gave up two runs on one hit, while striking out two.
Marshall County will take part in the Riverdale Warrior Classic this weekend.
