The Marshall County Tigerettes, seeking to escape the District 12-AA cellar, traveled south to Pulaski to face their co-cellar dweller, the Lady Bobcats on Tuesday night.

The Tigerettes were hoping to sweep the season series after winning at home on January 15, but the Lady Bobcats jumped out to an early lead and maintained the cushion throughout the game to defeat MCHS 47-32

Dionna Crutcher led the Tigerettes with 14 points and Karlye Wiser added six.

The Lady Bobcats controlled the tip, but missed their first shot and the Tigerettes grabbed the rebound and Crutcher laid the ball in on a swift move to the basket for 2-0 MCHS lead.

The lead was short-lived as GCHS sank two free throws and baskets by Ari Howard and Hannah Hill that pushed the Lady Bobcats’ lead to four points at 6-2.

Crutcher added another basket on a nice drive, but the Lady Bobcats responded with three baskets to go up by eight points, 12-4.

Crutcher added a 3-pointer and Israel Hurt sank a basket, but GCHS’s Tiondra Williams made an old-fashion three-point play and Hill sank another basket and when the quarter ended the Lady Bobcats led 17-9.

The second quarter saw the Tigerettes battle to stay close as Wiser sank two 3-pointers, but Williams scored six points to maintain the early lead as the Lady Bobcats took a 29-18 lead into the locker room at halftime.

The Tigerettes battled hard in the third quarter to cut into the GCHS lead, slicing it to six points on a basket by Kayla Keiler, but the Lady Bobcats once again made a run with 2:30 left in the quarter and stretched the lead to 12 points at 37-25.

Crutcher swished a 3-pointer on a buzzer beater to cut the lead to nine points at the end of the third quarter.

The final stanza saw the Tigerettes hanging tough, but they just could not cut the margin and the Lady Bobcats gained a split of the series with a 47-32 victory.

Their post player (Williams) really gave us a hard time, they out hustled us and if we don’t do something about our turnovers, we will have a hard way to go,” MCHS coach David Steely said.

Asked if with only eight players are the kids getting discouraged Steely said, “I think what is discouraging is not winning, these seniors have enjoyed winning and now they are not.”

The Tigerettes (4-12, 2-5) host Forrest (7-10, 4-3) on Friday.
