After a huge 10-0 win over District 12-AA rival Page on Thursday, the Marshall County Tigerettes had a letdown on Friday, dropping their first two pool games at the Middle Tennessee Softball Coaches Association Tournament at Ridley Park in Columbia, 6-0 to Smyrna and 4-2 to Columbia Central.
Game one versus Smyrna (10-3) belonged to Lady Bulldogs' hurler Makenzie Prince, who tossed four innings of one-hit ball in the circle to improve her record to 9-1 on the season.
Prince walked three, struck out 10 Tigerettes, and was on her way to a no-hitter before Mecia Reed drilled a first pitch up the middle with one out in the fourth inning.
Smyrna scored in the top of the first inning on an RBI fielder's choice by Kaitlin Crumpler and in the bottom of the inning, Prince struck out the first two MCHS batters before issuing back-to-back bases on balls to Ashton Watkins and Austyn Whaley.
A pair of passed balls put Tigerettes on second and third before Prince fielded a comebacker to the circle for the final out.
Smyrna put up a two-spot in the third inning on a two-run single by Crumpler, making it three-zip.
Prince faced four Tigerettes in the bottom of the frame with the only blemish being a walk to Madison Thomason.
Four consecutive singles by Kelsey Russell, Veronica Westfall, Kristen Hunsicker, and Crumpler to start the fourth produced two runs off Tigerette starting pitcher Grace Medley and a third run crossed the plate on an MCHS error.
Reed banged the one-out single in the bottom of the inning and two batters later, Madison Hargrove took first and Reed scampered to third on a passed ball third strike on Hargrove.
Prince squelched the late threat with a strikeout and game ended when the timer ran out on the hour and fifteen minute regulated contest.
Medley gave up nine hits, walked two and struck out one, while being touched for four earned runs.
In game two, Jacey Perryman went to the circle for Lewisburg and retired Columbia Central in order in the top of the first inning.
The Tigerettes got on the board first with Morgan Moyers leading off the bottom of the inning with a fly ball to center that was misplayed for an error.
Thomason moved Moyers to second with a sacrifice bunt before Watkins singled to center, putting Tigerette runners on second and third.
Whaley knocked in Moyers with a sacrifice fly before Lady Lions' starter Elizabeth Shumate got a ground ball to second for the final out of the inning.
There was no scoring in the second inning, but in the top of the third, Columbia Central scored two runs without a hit, thanks to two Marshall County errors, a base on balls and a wild pitch.
The Tigerettes came back to re-knot the game at 2-2 in the bottom of the frame as they loaded the bases on singles by Thomason and Whaley, plus a two-out error on Columbia Central that extended the inning.
Katie Crabtree drew an RBI base on balls, but the Tigerettes could not take the lead as Shumate induced a ground ball out to second that ended the inning.
A Perryman pitch to begin the fourth inning hit Imani Carter and Destinei Martin followed with an infield single before Lauren Turner knocked in Carter with a fielder's choice RBI, putting the Lady Lions up 3-2.
Two batters later, Katie Dickinson's RBI double made it 4-2 before Perryman got out of the inning on a fly ball to Moyers in center.
In the bottom of the inning, Marshall County wasted a leadoff double by Mary Kate McGehee and the game went to final inning.
Dareain Baker belted a two-out double in the top of the fifth, but Perryman got out of the inning on a pop-up to Reed at second.
In the Tigerettes' final at bat, Watkins reached first on a leadoff error by Columbia Central before Shumate got the next two outs.
Crabtree kept the game alive with a single to right field, putting MCHS runners on the corners.
Allison Sheroski nailed a grounder into the hole that looked like it would go through for a hit, but Dickinson scooped it up at short and threw to first, nipping Sheroski for the final out on a bang-bang play.
Perryman gave up four runs (two earned) on four hits in the circle, while walking one, striking out one, and beaning one Lady Lions' batter.
