Tigers roll
Although Forrest junior Gary Lukonen turned in the best round of the match, the Rockets could not match the depth of the Tigers' lineup and finished 18 strokes back with a 180.
"We're definitely becoming more consistent. We were expecting to shoot a little better today, but we still put up a pretty solid score so we'll take it," said MCHS coach Alex Phelps.
Brooks Leftwich and Wilson both shot a 39 to lead the way for the Tigers, while Kasey Beard carded a 40. Zach Smith also tallied a 44 for Marshall County.
"I've been waiting for Wilson to shoot under 40. He finally got his head on straight and played well today. His score was big for us today," said Phelps.
Lukonen's round
Despite bogeying the first and last holes, Lukonen was the lone player to break par and shot a one-under 35 thanks to birdies on the second, third, and eighth holes. Hawken King followed Lukonen with a 45, while Robert Garcia turned in a 48. Jarvis Lyttle notched a 51 for the Rockets as well.
"Gary's been more consistent this year. He's been around par in most of his rounds and has been real steady for us," said FHS coach Jeremy Jean. "We've improved a lot since last year, but we've still got a long way to go before we're ready for the District tournament."
The Tigers return to action on Thursday when they host Franklin County at Saddle Creek Golf Course before taking on Spring Hill and Lawrence County at King's Creek Golf Club next Tuesday.
Forrest, meanwhile, will face Eagleville twice early next week, as they host the Eagles at Henry Horton State Park on Monday before traveling to Champions Run Golf Course on Tuesday.
