Mrs. Thelma Howell, 91, of Cartersville, GA, formerly of Lewisburg, TN, died Friday evening, Oct. 4, 2019, in Cartersville, GA.

Mrs. Howell was born in Gordon County, GA and was a daughter of John Frank and Amanda Ida Chambers Mauney. She retired after over 20 years as the secretary of the guidance office, which she helped establish, at Cherokee High School in Canton, GA. Mrs. Howell was a member of the First Baptist Church of Cartersville. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Luke Howell, who died in Feb. of 2018, and by two sisters.

Mrs. Howell is survived by her children, Debbie (Nathan) Eberhart, Cartersville, GA and Tommy (Jane) Howell, Chapel Hill, TN; caregiver and close friend, Helen Chatmon, Cartersville, Ga; grandchildren, Clay Howell, Las Vegas, NV, Laura (Chris) English, Memphis, TN; great-granddaughters, Gabby Howell and Abigail English.

Graveside services will be conducted on Friday, Oct. 11, 2019, at 11:30 a.m. at Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, GA with Rev. Danny Barker and Bill Preston officiating. Burial will follow in the Georgia National Cemetery.

A special recognition and thanks is expressed to the Staff of Maple Ridge Health Care Center of Cartersville for the kindness and compassionate care that was given to Mrs. Thelma during her residency there.
