CHAPEL HILL — Luke Allen tossed a three-hit shutout in Forrest’s home-opening victory on Tuesday night against visiting Lewis County.
Allen was in prime form and kept the basepaths clear as he allowed just three hits in the Rockets’ win.
While Allen’s efforts on the mound keeping Lewis County guessing at the plate, the Rockets’ batting order took care of business with a hot start in the bottom of the first inning.
Forrest wasted no time in grabbing the lead, plating five runs in the first inning, three in the second and one in the third and fifth.
In total, Forrest belted out 11 hits, three of which went for extra bases off the bat of Austin Dillon, Ryan Meglis and Riley Durbin.
Kason Fuller, Preston Gentry and Durbin all drove in a pair of runs in the win as well.

FORREST 4, LEWIS CO. 1
CHAPEL HILL — In the 2023 season opener, Forrest picked up right where the Rockets left off in their run to the Class 2A state tournament a season ago and claimed a 4-1 win over Lewis County.
A three-run first inning gave Forrest all the cushion it would need in the opener, while the Rockets were able to tack on an insurance run in the top of the fourth inning.
Senior Riley Durbin got the nod and started for Forrest, pitching five innings of shutout baseball.
He gave up four hits, but struck out five before Carter Walk took over and pitched the final two innings in relief.
Walk gave up one run on two hits, but minimized the Lewis County bats’ effectiveness during his two innings on the bump.
Offensively, it was Kason Fuller who drove in a pair of runs on one hit, while Luke Allen went 2-for-4 with a solo homer.
Riley Durbin also singled in the win.
