Rockets, Lady Bulldogs take Wells Cup lead after Day 2

CHAPEL HILL — In what usually spans over three days has been dodging rain outs and postponements for a month now in the Wells Cup.
In last Wednesday’s makeup at Henry Horton, Cornersville, Forrest and Marshall County High School golfers were finally able to resume play in Day 2 of the Wells Cup.
Day 1 was completed at the Lewisburg Recreation Center, setting up Day 2 at Henry Horton.
On Day 2 of the event, it was the Forrest Rockets and Cornersville Lady Bulldogs that carded the lowest scores of the afternoon.
Forrest posted a 175 team score and was led by Kelton Grubbs’ 38 low-score. Grubbs’ 38 was only bested by Marshall County’s Easton McMahon, who shot a round-low 36 on the afternoon.
Noah Brown turned in a 43 for the Rockets, while Trey Williamson and Shawn Brown shot a 42 and 52, respectively.
Joining McMahon on the Tigers’ roster was Ronan Scott. He turned in a 42 for the Tigers, but the pair were the only two Marshall County golfers and were unable to post a full team score.
Still, the two shot a respectable round in the second outing of the Wells Cup.
Corrnersville was also well-represented in Day 2 at Henry Horton, with Micah Riddle shooting a 46 to lead the way for the Bulldogs.
Coby Gibson finished two strokes back with a 48, while Ayden Campbell turned in a 51.
Austin Haffner rounded out varsity scoring for the Bulldogs with a 62.
Nellie Neece was the lone Tigerette to participate in Day 2 of the Wells Cup and she finished her round with a 58.
After two days of competition in the books, the Cornersville Lady Bulldogs lead Forrest, 176-198, while the Forrest Rockets lead the Cornersville Bulldogs, 354-406.
The final day of the Wells Cup was scheduled to take place on Wednesday in a make up at Saddle Creek, weather pending.
