CHAPEL HILL — After sweeping Cascade last week to grab an early lead in the District 7-AA race, Forrest got a big boost in from of a home crowd on Tuesday night, hammering Community 16-0 in five innings to tighten its grip on the 7-AA lead.
Not much went against Forrest on Tuesday night as Riley Durbin and Carter Walk combined to pitch a two-hitter against the Vikings.
Durbin pitched two innings and struck out four, while giving up one hit, while Walk went three innings and fanned three Viking batters while also giving up just one hit.
Neither Rocket pitcher issued a walk.
At the plate, it was an embarrassment of riches for the Rockets, with Ryan Meglis and Durbin each driving in three runs, while Walk and Austin Dillon each plated two more apiece.
Forrest jumped on the Vikings early and plated seven runs in the bottom of the first inning, highlighted by five-straight base hits.
Leading 7-0, Forrest continued to pad its lead and added six more runs on the scoreboard in the second inning, after Durbin sat the Vikings down in order in the top of the inning.
Game 1 of the series was originally scheduled to be played on Monday night at Community, however the game was postponed to Wednesday due to rainy weather. That game was also postponed until Thursday afternoon due to inclement weather.
