“A happy family is but an earlier heaven.” ~ George Bernard Shaw

Miriam Williams Wilson, 90, a longtime resident of Cornersville, TN, died Feb. 10, 2021, surrounded by her loving family. Standing barely five feet tall, she was a proper southern Church of Christ lady whose motto was “scrub it, love it, or feed it!” She firmly believed that hard work, a clean house, appropriate undergarments, and a good set of china would get you far in life . . . and she was right.

Mrs. Wilson was born Aug. 15, 1930, to Robert Lee and Edna Clark Williams of the Blue Creek community of Giles County, near Cornersville, TN. She spent her childhood in the Blue Creek community before moving with her family to Cornersville in 1942. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of more than sixty-five years, Jerry Lee Wilson (he died in 2016), her brother James Edward Williams, and her sister Catherine Williams Wilson. She was a graduate of Cornersville School and a lifelong resident of Cornersville, except for a few years after her marriage when she lived in Chapel Hill, TN with her husband. She worked as the secretary and bookkeeper for Cornersville School for thirty plus years, where she touched the lives of many children and teachers with whom she interacted daily. She was a lifelong member of the Cornersville Church of Christ where she taught Sunday school, Vacation Bible School, and supported her community by cooking, cleaning, clothing, and assisting those in need. She was a talented cook, seamstress, and homemaker. Yet her biggest accomplishment and considerable source of pride was her close-knit family.

She is survived by her four children, Linda Lee Wilson (husband Dane Bryant) of Nashville, Mark Wilson (wife Cynthia Wilson) of Murfreesboro, Patricia Wilson Bowers (husband Jim Bowers) of Fayetteville, and Sonia Wilson St. Charles (husband Paul Clifford) of Lewisburg and grandchildren, Megan Bowers Weems (James), Aaron Bowers (Jenny), Natalie Wilson McMillen, Rob Wilson (Frances), Wil St. Charles (Krista), Eric Clifford, Anne Clifford and great-grandchildren, Ellie McMillen, Jack McMillen, and Wells Wilson.

A graveside service will be conducted on Saturday, Feb. 13, 2021, at 10:30 a.m. by her beloved nephew, the Reverend Anthony Williams, at the Cornersville Beechwood Cemetery. Friends and family who wish to attend should be prepared to observe Covid-19 protocols. Those that wish may attend the service while remaining in their cars. Pallbearers will be Jim Bowers, Dane Bryant, Paul Clifford, Aaron Bowers, Rob Wilson, Wil St. Charles, Eric Clifford, and James Weems.

For those who wish, memorial donations may be made to the Beechwood Cemetery Association, in care of Judy Stewart, 206 Front View Avenue, Cornersville, TN 37047. Cards may be sent to the family at 611 South Main Street, Cornersville, TN, 37047.
