April 24, 1937 - November 17, 2022
Melvin Thomas Blalock, age 85, passed away at his home on Nov. 17, 2022.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leslie Franklin and Melvina Cole Blalock: brothers; James, J.R., Bill “Elvis”, Clarence, and Lyndon Blalock: sisters; Mamie Secrest and Christine Hardison: two sons, Lance and Mark Blalock.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Joyce Holder Blalock and children Mike (Estell) Blalock of Shelbyville, Leslie (Trina) Blalock of Lewisburg, Anita (Frankie) Harwell of Culleoka and Monty (Barry) Thompson of Lewisburg; nine grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Mr. Blalock was a long-time farmer and carpenter. He sold vegetables, fried pies, and loved telling stories and spending time with people. Thomas loved sports and was always proud to see his grandchildren and great grandchildren play and loved to hear their stories. He enjoyed having coffee with his friends in the “Old Geezers Club.”
Pallbearers were grandsons, Kris Blalock, Jason Curry, Daniel Blalock, Tyler Blalock, Benton Thompson and Cole Blalock. Honorary pallbearers were The Geezers, Steve Evans, Forrest Barrom and the MCHS Class of 1955.
Visitation took place Sunday, Nov. 20, 2022, from 4-8 p.m. and Monday, Nov. 21, 2022, starting at 11 a.m. until the funeral hour at 1 p.m.
Visitation and service was at Westvue Church of Christ with burial following in Bryant Cemetery in Mooresville.
London Funeral Home and Crematory assisted the family with the arrangements.
