It was a sweet senior night for Marshall County at Reese Hambrick Field in Lewisburg Thursday night as the Tigerettes swept a doubleheader from Fairview 7-1 and 16-4.

Marshall County head coach Holly Cook said about her seniors, "These three (Austyn Whaley, Morgan Moyers, Katie Crabtree) are real special to me and very special to this program. They have been the epitome of leaders for their whole four years; not only on the field, but off the field they are exactly what we want are players to be, so I am very proud of them."

Three-run homers

The night was especially sweet for senior third sacker Austyn Whaley, who bashed a pair of three-run homeruns in game two, extending her all-time school record to 24 career long knocks.

In game one, Jacey Perryman tossed a four-hit complete game in the circle for MCHS, while helping her own cause at the plate with two hits in three at bats, including two RBIs.

Madison Thomason also had two hits in the contest with an RBI and two runs scored.

Morgan Moyers (1-3, 1 RS, BB), Ashton Watkins (1-3, RBI), Whaley (1-3), Mecia Reed (1-3, RS), and Makenzie Jo Anderson (1-3, RS) all had one hit in the contest.

The Tigerettes scored one run in the first, four in the second inning, and two more in the fourth to take a 7-0 lead.

Perryman held the Lady Yellow Jackets hitless through four and one third innings before Tori Smith broke up the no-no with a double that scored Tiffany Franks, who reached on a leadoff error.

That would be all the scoring in the game for either squad in the six-run win for the Tigerettes.

In game two, the Tigerettes were the visiting team and they went off at the plate, bashing 17 hits, including eight extra base hits, with seven players coming up with a multiple hit effort.

Perfect timing

"We are starting to put stuff together at the right time and everything is starting to click," said Cook. "We have been working real hard with the bats the last of couple of weeks and it is showing, we are getting some confidence at the plate and it is happening the exact time I need it to happen."

Whaley hit three run homeruns in both the first and second innings as MCHS took a 7-0 lead.

Fairview would not pitch to Whaley her next two times at bat, intentionally walking her twice before the MTSU signee reached on an error in the sixth inning.

Lewisburg led 8-0 in the second inning and 10-0 in the third before Fairview plated three runs in the fourth to extend the game.

The Tigerettes sent two more runners across the plate in the fifth inning, but the Lady Jackets matched the two spot in the bottom of the inning, making it 12-4.

Run-rule win

In the top of the sixth, MCHS put up a four-spot and Fairview was unable to score in the bottom of the inning as the game ended in the run-rule win for the Tigerettes.

Thomason was perfect at the plate for MCHS, going 4-4 with a pair of doubles, a base on balls, plus three runs scored, and two RBIs.

Reed had a huge game two, going 3-4 with a triple, an RBI, and a run scored.

Moyers (2-4, 2B, 2RS, RBI), Watkins (2-4, 2 doubles, 3RS, HBP), Madison Hargrove (2-4, 2RS), and Perryman (2-4, 2 doubles, 2RS, RBI) all had two hits for the Tigerettes.

Grace Medley picked up the win in the circle for MCHS, tossing all six innings.

Top pitchers

"Our pitchers have done a great job keeping the runs low," said Cook. "I can't say enough about them (Perryman, Medley). Both of them can come in and do a great job and I am real proud of them."

Medley gave up one earned run on five hits, while walking one and striking out one.

The Tigerettes (19-7, 13-3) finishing their regular season schedule on Friday night, beating East Hickman 5-1.

"I don't know where we will fall in the regular season, let the cards fall where they may," said Cook. "But, I definitely feel we are the strongest in the district, and we are definitely putting it together at the right time, just in time for the district tournament."
