The Marshall County Wrestling Club kicked off its season with a strong showing by its middle school wrestlers last Saturday as the group racked up multiple wins at its first tournament of the season in Tullahoma.

"Our team came ready to wrestle," said club founder Chris Posey. "We have been practicing for a couple of weeks now. We have spent a lot of time refining the basics as well as preparing for competition, and it showed as the club faced competition from all over the state."

In its third season, the MCWC is looking forward to getting some nice returns on its investment. "Being a startup three years ago, we had a group that had never been on the mat. Now that we have wrestlers with multiple years of experience, and we are anticipating seeing more success this year," said coach Mike McCoy.

Members wanted

The club is focusing on expanding its membership to include youth from all over Marshall County. Since the MCWC is based in Chapel Hill, naturally the majority of their members are from Chapel Hill. The club is making efforts this season to advertise and market in Lewisburg and Cornersville where they already have some members. They truly want to make the wrestling club representative of all of Marshall County. "Having more members means that kids will have more competition at practice, and that's good for everyone," said Posey

The MCWC works out at Horton Haven Christian Camp up to four days a week depending on the age group. "Horton Haven has been a gracious host for our club. Their gymnasium facility is top notch and it allows us private practice space dedicated to wrestling," said Posey.

The MCWC will be accepting new members throughout the wrestling season. The club accepts ages Pre-K through 8th grade. For more information on the club visit www.marshallcountywreslingclub.com or contact them on Facebook.
