Margaret Alease Smith Meadows, 94, of Madison, TN and most recently Franklin, TN, passed away on April 9, 2023. She was born on May 10, 1928, in Lincoln County, TN, daughter of the late Jessie Monroe & Loutina Davis Smith. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Earl Meadows; brothers, Thomas Monroe Smith and Henry Lacy Smith; sisters-in-law, Fannie Smith, Alice Smith, and Ruth Smith; niece, Connie Sullivan; and nephew, Doyle Meadows. 

She is survived by daughter, Carol (Gary) Parsons; brother, David Ray Smith; nieces, Carol (Andrew) Hodge, Yvonne (Tim) McCoin, Cindy Knois; nephews, Tommy (Lorraine) Smith, Mike (Kacy) Smith, Zane (Laura) Smith; and step-nephew, Jimmy Smithson; 15 great nieces and nephews; 14 great-great nieces and nephews; and 2 great-great-great nieces.

Margaret attended Delina Grade school and Morgan Preparatory High School-Petersburg, TN. She and her mother attended Delina Church of God as a child. She played basketball while in high school. She then attended Nashville Business School. After graduation, she started working at Veterans Administration Federal Building, Nashville TN. After marriage and later pregnancy, she stopped working to become a full time mother and then years later a care giver of her parents. Margaret became a widow after approx. 20 yrs of marriage and found herself a single mother to a 10 yr old daughter. She moved back to Nashville TN where she resumed employment at the Veterans Administration, and she worked her way up from entry job to administrative secretary and ultimately Loan-Guarantee Officer when she retired after total of 30+years of service. She was very active in the Nashville Community Church of God, which moved to Trinity First Church of God and later to Hermitage Church of God—Grace Place. Throughout the years, she served as children’s Sunday School teacher, church office secretary/treasurer, was appointed to the church Board of Trustee and other church board positions, including Chairperson of one of the boards. Margaret was also very active in the church ladies’ activities and was known as a very good cook and baker. Since the 1970’s while attending her church, she was active in the Women’s Missionary Society, later known as Women of the Church of God, and then the Christian Women Connection. The group’s primary focus was supporting missionaries and mission work Internationally, Nationally, and locally, in conjunction with the Church of God, Anderson, IN national office. While involved with this organization, she developed life-long friendships with these women and learned skills of ceramic and crafts which the ladies made and sold to raise money for the missionary work. She held multiple positions within the local group including President, Vice President, Treasurer, and Secretary. At the time of her death with 50+years of service, she was currently serving as Co-Coordinator of Grace Place CWC with her daughter Carol Parsons.

Margaret is known as a strong Christian and a wonderful mentor and example. She was benevolent server to others in need. She enjoyed traveling, especially to Gatlinburg with her friends and family. She also enjoyed cooking and baking for others and entertaining for family holidays. She loved and collected red birds. She had a long life and was always happy and laughing, even in the hospital.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday evening, April 12, 2023, from 4pm-8pm and funeral Thursday morning, April 13, 2023, 10:00 am at Grace Place Church, 4316 Central Pike, Hermitage, TN 37076. Interment will follow at Medium Cemetery, Delina, TN. Flowers and gifts may be delivered to Grace Place Church, Hermitage TN.
