LMS Tigers suffer Homecoming blues

Lewisburg Middle School had a rough Homecoming on Thursday night, losing 40-0 to the Dickson Dragons.

"I told the boys all week, Dickson is the most boring football team in the world and they love it that way," LMS coach Eliot Cook said. "They run it straight up the middle every play and if they get three or four yards they're happy with it. They want third- or fourth-and-short. That's how they play."

Few yards

The Tigers just couldn't get anything going offensively in the contest, managing just 72 yards of offense.

"We got behind early and if you get behind against a team like that who burns the clock, you have to take advantage when it is your turn with the ball and we didn't do that," Cook said.

Lewisburg turned the ball over five times to the Dragons, who capitalized on each one.

Lewisburg's best scoring opportunity in the first half came after Preston Shelton picked off a Dickson pass near the goal line. However, the Tigers gave the ball back on a fumbled snap moments later.

The Dragons capitalized, driving 28 yards for the touchdown on a 6-yard run by Andrew Newton.

Jonathan Killebrew's two-point conversion catch from Dickson quarterback Matt Roberts made it a 20-0 ballgame at the half.

Dragons strik

The Dragons scored on their first drive of the second half, and after an LMS turnover, Dickson scored again to put the game out of reach at 32-0.

"We have to just keep plugging away and keep getting better," Cook said.

The Tigers had a quick turnaround, playing at Spring Hill on Tuesday.

"Spring Hill is our biggest rival, so we just have to go on the road and forget about it and keep playing," Cook added.
