The LMS Tigers finished the 2013 campaign in style, belting the Bridgeforth Bobcats 50-20 Thursday night at Preston Hopkins Field in Lewisburg.
"I told them to empty the bucket tonight and leave with a good feeling," said LMS head coach Elliot Cook.
LMS scored on the first three series of the game, beginning with 50-yard touchdown run by Caleb Fields on the third snap from scrimmage.
Kamron Liggett-Hightower ran in the end zone untouched for the two-point conversion, making it 8-0.
Errors equal scores
On the Bobcats next possession after the Fields' score, the Tigers put up six more points on a dazzling 32-yard fumble recovery by Hightower, who picked up the ball on the far right side of the field before circling back to the left and following a wall of LMS blockers into the end zone.
On their next touch, the Bobcats were on their heels on offense and LMS took advantage when Liggett-Hightower picked off a Bryce Wallace second down pass and took it to the house down the home sideline from 77 yards out for a touchdown.
Caleb Estes nailed his second extra point kick of the game, giving the Tigers a 22-0 lead with 4:10 remaining in the first quarter.
Big plays
The Bobcats went three-and-out on their next possession and it did not take long for LMS to score again as Liggett-Hightower ran for 21 yards on first down before scoring from 47 yards out.
The Estes extra point was true again and the Tigers were way out in front 29-0 with just over a minute to go in the opening period.
The Bobcats turned the ball over on downs to begin the second quarter and after a first down incompletion, Wesley Walker got into the 'big play' act, juking his way to a 55-yard touchdown run for a 35-0 LMS lead.
The snowball became an avalanche for the Bobcats when Liggett-Hightower wowed the crowd with a 77-yard highlight film, interception return for touchdown as he outran the entire Bridgeforth team on his way to pay dirt.
Estes added the point after touchdown, swelling the LMS lead to 43-0 at the halftime break.
Bobcats score
The Bobcats finally got on the board on the first possession of the second half, driving all the way to the LMS one-yard line where Wallace found a wide-open Max Jett for a touchdown.
Wallace converted the two-point conversion with a toss to Walker Galbraith, making it 43-8.
On the kickoff, Fields caught the ball at the LMS 43-yard line and took the outside path down the sidelines for a 57-yard touchdown.
Estes would add the final LMS point of the ball game, putting the Tigers at the half-century mark in scoring.
Wallace made it a 50-14 contest on the Bobcats' next possession when he hooked up with Rashaun Johnson for a 24-yard touchdown, and after an LMS fumble, Wallace tossed a 15-yard TD pass to Bryce Gibson on the last play of the game in the 30-point loss for the Giles County squad.
Looking back
The Tigers finished the season with a 5-3 record.
"We were two fumbles and a couple penalties away from being undefeated this year," said Cook. "The margin for error is small and in this game, you have to take care of the ball."
LMS put up 173 yards rushing in the contest on just eight carries with Fields leading the way with 56 yards on two carries, while Walker had the one 55-yard carry that went for a score, and Ligget-Hightower had two carries for 21 yards, plus a 21-yard pass reception from KJ Johnson.
