Linda King Ledford, 84, of Madison, Ala., died Saturday, May 4, 2013, at Valley View Nursing Home in Madison. Born Jan. 27, 1929, in Mooresville, Ms. Ledford was the daughter of the late Bryan Herman Ledford and Ruth King Ledford. Linda King Ledford

Linda King Ledford, 84, of Madison, Ala., died Saturday, May 4, 2013, at Valley View Nursing Home in Madison.

Born Jan. 27, 1929, in Mooresville, Ms. Ledford was the daughter of the late Bryan Herman Ledford and Ruth King Ledford.

Ms. Ledford received her Bachelor of Science degree from Middle Tennessee State University where she was nominated homecoming queen in her senior year. At MTSU she was named to the "Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges." She received her Masters of Library Science from Auburn University. Ms. Ledford began her 45-year teaching career at Mooresville Elementary in the early 1950s. She retired as the head librarian at Marshall County High School in 1992. Ms. Ledford was a talented seamstress and made a lifetime's worth of beautiful clothing for her family.

She lived her retirement years in Athens, Ga., close to her sister and brother-in-law, Dr. and Mrs. Jim Fortson. She was an active member of St. James Methodist Church, Athens, Ga. She and Jim enjoyed many Georgia basketball games together.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her two brothers, Bryan Eugene Ledford and Tyson David Ledford.

She is survived by her sisters, Betty L. Roberts of Athens, Ala., Carolyn L. Fortson of Athens, Ga., Amy L. Ledford of Athens, Ala., and Alice L. Foughner of Marietta, Ga.; sister-in-law Imogene Ledford of Lewisburg; as well as many loving nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 9, from the chapel of London Funeral Home, with burial to follow in Bryant Cemetery near Ms. Ledford's childhood home.

Visitation will be held one hour before the funeral hour.

London Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
