The Marshall County Babe Ruth League is hosting the 13-15 year-old Southeast Region Tournament for the first time in the league’s history. The tournament starts on July 24 and runs through July 29 at the Jonathan D. Hollingsworth Memorial Babe Ruth League Field in Lewisburg. The eight-team, double elimination pool play event will feature two teams from Tennessee, Florida, and North Carolina and one team from Virginia and the Bahamas. Tallahassee is the defending Southeast Region Tournament champions as they beat Arlington, Virginia for the title last year at Longwood Gardens, Florida. Marshall County went 1-2 in last year’s tournament, losing 6-2 to Orlando in round one before coming up with a 3-1 win over Dinwiddie, Virginia in a loser’s bracket contest. The Marshall County all-stars were eliminated by the eventual champions from Tallahassee via a 10-0 shutout. Marshall County has never won a Southeast Region Tournament and their only World Series appearance came in 2017 when they were invited as an at-large team to the Lawrenceburg event.
