If you like the thrill of horse racing, especially the Kentucky Derby, while having fun and supporting a great cause, the Lewisburg Rotary Club will be holding its “Run for the Roses” Derby Party fundraiser on Saturday, May 7, at Flat Rock Farms in Lewisburg.

Starting at 3 p.m., the event will offer a wide array of silent auction items donated by local businesses and individuals, games, and the live Kentucky Derby race on a large movie screen. The Rotary Derby Party will offer a full, staffed bar serving mint juleps, beer, and mixed drinks. Pickers Creek Winery will be providing its wonderful selection of wine. Heavy hors d’oeuvres will be supplied by Taproot Public House.

“Rotary members believe that they have a responsibility to take action to improve their communities,” said Randy Belote, Rotary Club president and president and CEO of Flat Rock Farms. “For the last century, Rotary Club of Lewisburg has been working to improve the quality of life in Lewisburg and Marshall County. This is a great event for the public to attend to show its support of the Rotary Club.”

Flat Rock Farms is located at 1190 W. Ellington Parkway, Lewisburg.

Tickets for the event are $50 per person and are available online at Eventbrite under Lewisburg Events, via Rotary Club members, and at the door.

Some local companies have already shown their corporate support by becoming event sponsors, in three categories: Win, Place and Show. Currently there is no Win Sponsor, Place sponsors donated $2,500 and include Davenport Group, Roberts Toyota, WM (previously known as Waste Management), and United Communications. Show sponsors contributed $1,000 each and include Marshall Medical, Picker’s Creek, Lpl Financial LLC, Lewisburg Animal Hospital, First Commerce Bank, and Rogers Group.

For fun, the ”Run for the Roses” Derby Party will offer staged photo areas with props to capture fun memories. There will be two costume contests, as well. Women are encouraged to wear their wildest Derby hat creations, and men, their most dapper outfits. Prizes will be awarded to the winners in those categories.

As has been the case for the past 100 years, monies raised by the Rotary Club are returned to the community to support many local non-profit organizations and school and student programs.
