Lela Mai Victory

Lela Mai Victory, 97, a resident of Lewisburg, passed away Monday morning, April 3, 2023, at NHC Oakwood.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, April 6, 2023, from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. and again on Friday from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. at Heritage Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held on Friday, April 7, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with Ricky Clay and Jay Victory officiating. She will be laid to rest in Dugan Cemetery in Dickson on Friday at 2:30 p.m. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Born on Dec. 16, 1925, in Dickson County, TN, Lela was the daughter of the late Guy Bishop and the late Dorothy Hyndman Bishop. She was the second oldest of nine children. She married Chester Victory on Oct. 16, 1943; he preceded her in death on Nov. 29, 2005. She worked twenty-eight years as a seamstress for Weather Tamer. Lela was a long-time member of Scribner’s Mill Church of Christ. Lela was an excellent cook who made the best chicken and dumplings. She also enjoyed canning and working in her garden. Above all, she loved her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her sons, Dallas (Marilyn) Victory of Lewisburg, John (Theresa) Victory of Franklin; daughter, Dorothy Jett of Lewisburg; sister, Edith Robinson of Dickson,; daughter-in-law, Charlene Victory of Lewisburg; sister-in-law, Marjorie (Bill) Ardry of Sawdust, TN; 11 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and 14 great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Harvey Victory; sisters, Betty McCollom and Sadie Black; and brothers, Harvey, Jesse, Lester, Carl, and Larry Bishop.

Pallbearers will be Richie Fleck, Chris Victory, Nathan Jett, Buck Primm, Joey Victory, Matthew Victory, Jacob Adams, and Jim Cross. Honorary pallbearers will include members of Scribner’s Mill Church of Christ.
