Mrs. Laura Leigh Wright Schmidt, 52, of Shelbyville, TN, died Saturday, Dec. 31, 2022, in Nashville, TN.  Laura was born in Shelbyville, TN and was a Clinical Lead Nurse with Optum Healthcare. She was preceded in death by her mother, Joyce Faye Poarch Wright: brother, Ricky Wright; and grandson, William Lee Alwardt.

Mrs. Schmidt is survived by her husband of nine years, John Mason Schmidt, Shelbyville, TN; children, Jesse Dakota Pugh, Wartrace, TN, Jennifer Leigh Alwardt, Shelbyville, TN, Kate Elizabeth Pugh, Shelbyville, TN; father, Homer Wright, Shelbyville, TN; sisters, Vicky Wright Voelkel and Sandy Wright Tapp, both of Shelbyville, TN; grandchildren, Lyla Jeen Pugh, Brylen Brooks Pugh, Joy Nichole Pugh, Jamey Rhett Alwardt, Maddie Adelaide Alwardt, Emmaline Faye Alwardt, Everleigh Grace Alwardt.

Family members will receive friends on Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2023, from 5 until 8 p.m. at Lawrence Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 5, 2023, from the chapel of Lawrence Funeral Home with Rev. Randall Harmon officiating.  Burial will follow in Andrew – Liggett Cemetery.

Joshua Pope, Jet Tapp, Joe Wright, Keith Newcomb, Eddie Smith, and Chris Brown will serve as pallbearers.
