The FMS Lady Rockets improved to 4-0 on the season with an 11-1 run rule win over E.A. Cox Thursday night in Chapel Hill.

Forrest scored six runs in the first inning to take control of the contest, scored two more runs in the fourth, and put the game on ice with a three-run sixth inning.

Lainey Mays picked up the win in the circle for FMS, tossing the first three innings before Madison Curtis came on in the fourth to finish the contest.

No hits

Mays did not give up a hit in her three innings of work, but walked four and hit one Lady Cougar batter.

Mays also led the 11-hit attack for FMS, going a perfect 3-3 at the dish with two RBIs and two runs scored.

After the Lady Cougars were unable to score in the top of the first, Mays led off the home half of the first inning with a base hit to left field.

Jordan Yelensky reached on an error and both runners advanced on a double steal before Kyleah Hengesbach sent them both home with a double to the gap in left/center.

More scores

A passed ball sent Hengesbach to third base and she scored on a fielder's choice RBI by Samantha King.

Carson Warner followed with a hit to left, but was erased at second on a fielder's choice by Rickee Gayle Carter.

The Lady Rockets played small ball as Curtis and Jasmine Runk reached on back-to-back bunt singles to load the sacks.

Carter scored on a passed ball to make it 4-0 and an error on Liberty opened the door for Mays, who drilled a two-run double to make it a 6-0 ballgame.

Natalie Lampley drove home two runs in the bottom of the fourth to up Forrest's lead to 8-0.

The Lady Cougars broke up the shutout on an RBI base hit by Kimber Bennett in the top of the sixth.

Rolling alomg

Grace Thrasher led off the home half of the inning with a base hit, Yelensky followed with a walk, and an infield single by Hengesbach loaded the sacks full of Lady Rockets.

After a strikeout, Chloe Bruce drilled a two-run double to left to make it 10-1 and Micayla Feller beat out an infield grounder to re-load the bases.

Bruce came home on a grounder to short as the throw home sailed high, ending the game.

Hengesbach finished with a 2-3 night at the dish with two RBIs and a run scored, while Warner, Runk, Feller, Thrasher, Daelyn Dowers, and Bruce all had one base hit apiece.
