The four-time and defending state champion Forrest Lady Rockets picked up where they left off last season, coming away with a close 5-3 win at Oakland in Tuesday night’s season opener.
Junior hurler Julie Williams picked up the complete game victory in the circle for the Lady Rockets, giving up one earned run on seven hits, while striking out four and walking one Lady Patriots’ batter.
Christa Warren and Parker Wales had two hits and drove home one run apiece and Briley Burnham knocked in two runs, while Carli Warner nailed an RBI double to cap off the big four-run fifth inning that put Forrest in control.
The Lady Rockets picked up an unearned insurance run in the sixth inning and Williams escaped a two-out bases loaded jam in the bottom of the seventh inning with a game-ending strikeout.
Forrest hosts Shelbyville in the home opener at The Field of Dreams in Chapel Hill tomorrow night with first pitch scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
The Lady Rockets entertain the Marshall County Tigerettes in an intra-county rivalry contest on Friday at 5 p.m.
