The Forrest Lady Rockets turned in a solid showing last weekend at the Raptor Classic in Brentwood, going 2-2 with a pair of run-rule wins over CPA and Page, while losing two one run games to Waverly Central and Creekwood.

Forrest opened up pool play Friday night, thrashing CPA 10-0 before taking on Class AA Waverly Central in game two.

Waverly Central

The District 11-AA Lady Tigers jumped out to an early 3-0 lead before a pair of base hits by Jordan Yelensky and Kiyoko Puca set up a three-run homerun by Katie Warrick, tying the game at 3.

Samantha King came up after the Warrick dinger and belted a towering homerun down the left field line, giving the Lady Rockets a 4-3 lead in the last inning.

In the bottom of the inning as time was running out, luck ran out for the Lady Rockets as Waverly scored two unearned runs to win the ballgame 5-4.

In Saturday morning's last pool game, Forrest took out its frustrations from the night before on the Lady Patriots, scoring three runs in the first inning via a two-run single by Sara Jordan and an RBI base knock by Liz Daughrity.

Jordan, who started in the circle for Forrest, gave up a one-out double in the bottom of the inning before a pop-up to Daughrity at first ended the mini-threat.

The Lady Rockets put the game away in the top of the second, scoring five runs to take an 8-0 lead.

The big blows in the offensive onslaught was a three-run shot by King and a run scoring triple by Lainey Mays.

Jordan set down Page 1-2-3 in the bottom of the second before Forrest put up another five-spot in the top of the third on a Warrick two-run dinger and Jordan three-run homer to take a 13-0 lead.

Jordan ended her one-hitter in style, getting the first out on a pop-up to Jordan Yelensky at shortstop, a ground ball to Daughrity at first and a game ending strikeout.

Jordan also led the Lady Rockets at the dish, going a perfect 3-3 with five RBIs, including the three-run dinger.

King (2-2, 2RS, 3RBIs, BB) and Warrick (2-2, 2RS, 2RBIs, BB, SB) had two hits apiece in the contest.

Mays (1-2, 2RS, RBI, 3B, BB), Yelensky (1-3, RS, 2B), Daughrity (1-3, RBI) and Jasmine Runk (1-1, RS) all had one base hit each.

Puca scored once and had a sacrifice bunt, while Emma Stacey crossed home plate twice as a courtesy runner.

Creek Wood

The Lady Rockets pulled a tough draw for the first round of bracket as they had to take on Class-AA Creekwood, who had just beaten Columbia Academy 5-1 I their final pool play game.

The District 11-AA Lady Red Hawks (19-7, 7-0) sent their ace pitcher Taylor Griffith to the circle versus the Lady Rockets and she did not disappoint, shutting out Forrest on just two hits in the contest.

A Katie Warrick one-out single in the top of the first, a Sara Jordan one-out base hit in the second and Griffith hit King with a pitch in the fourth inning.

Warrick started in the circle for the Lady Rockets and did not allow a run until the bottom of the third inning when Griffith reached on an infield single and Kayla Jackson follow with a RBI triple to give the Lady Red Hawks all the runs they would need.

Mays reached on an infield error to lead off the last inning for the Lady Rockets, but Griffith struck out the next three Forrest batters to end the game and end the tournament for FHS.

Creek Wood would eventually lose 4-3 to Riverdale, who went on to win the tournament with an 8-3 win over host Ravenwood in the championship game.
