The Forrest Lady Rockets finished the regular season in style, celebrating Senior Night with a 10-1 win over Eagleville at the Field of Dreams in Chapel Hill Wednesday night.

"I am pleased our seniors got to play and we finished up our district games," said Forrest head coach Becky Cheatham. "We did OK once we got rolling with the bats, Ricky (Stinnett) had to get a little short fused there, but we got rolling and got the job done and I hope we can build on that tomorrow."

Forrest (23-7, 10-2) hosted winless Middle Tennessee Christian School Thursday night in the first round of the District 9-A Tournament and will play a second-round game on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Moore County.

Winning seniors

Senior Sara Jordan picked up the win in the circle for Forrest, tossing two shutout innings before Katie Warrick relieved her teammate, finishing strong in a three-hit, eight strikeout, five-inning stint.

The Lady Rockets banged out 14 hits versus Eagleville and opened the scoring in the contest when Jordan drove in Jordan Yelensky with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the first inning.

Senior Liz "The Eraser" Daughrity followed with a two-run double, making it a 3-0 contest.

There was no more scoring until the bottom of the fourth inning when the Lady Rockets exploded for eight runs as Yelensky belted a two-run shot, Samantha King knocked in two more with a double, and Lainey Mays made it an 8-0 ballgame with a sacrifice fly.

In the top of the sixth, Eagleville came up with an unearned run to bust the shutout as Hayleigh Patterson knocked in Shi Knox, who had reached on an infield error by Forrest.

Insurance runs

The Lady Rockets added two more insurance runs in the top of the seventh inning on RBI base knocks by Mays and Savannah Brothers.

Warrick mowed down the Lady Eagles 1-2-3 in the final inning to seal the deal on the regular season.

The red-hot Piper Elmore continued her torrid streak at the plate for Forrest, going a perfect 3-3 with a run scored and a sacrifice bunt.

Jordan (2-2, sac fly, RBI, RS), Yelensky (2-4, HR, 2RS, BB), Daughrity (2-4, RS, 2RBIs, BB, 2B), and Mays (2-3, 2RBIs, sac fly) all had a pair of base knocks in the contest, while Warrick (1-3, RS, BB), King (1-3, 2RS, 2RBIs, HBP, 2B), and Amanda Patterson (1-2, RS) all managed a single hit.

No. 2 seed

Forrest will be the No. 2 seed for the second straight season and Cheatham wants to match last year's feat when the Lady Rockets won the district tournament.

"The pressure is on us, we need to get the job done, and go into the tournament on fire," said Cheatham. "Our challenge to them is somebody took what we wanted and now we want to go take it back."
