After letting one slip away versus Moore County at home on Thursday, the Forrest Lady Rockets bounced back in a big way on Friday night at Chapel Hill, routing Eagleville 61-37.

“We shared the ball well, tonight we played good team defense and we didn’t leave people out to dry,” Forrest coach Jeremy Jean said. “I’m well-pleased with how we played on both ends of the court, even though we didn’t start well, we kept plugging away.”

It was the second time this season that Forrest beat last year’s Class A state tournament participant by twenty-plus points, winning 66-39 at Eagleville on December 13.

The Lady Rockets had three players in double figures in the scoring column with junior Carissa Curtis leading the way with a game-high 22 points.

Seniors Ally Blanton and Jaide Langley had 17 and 11 points, respectively.

Megan Mealer had four points, Laura Mealer three, and Macyn Kirby, filling in for the injured Anna Blanton had one field goal.

“Shea Lewis came in and did good down low, Macyn Kirby came in and played well at the top of the zone, Megan Mealer came in and played well, and Addison Bunty came in and played well, so it was a nice team win for the girls,” Jean said.

Forrest burned the Lady Eagles from beyond the three-point arc as Ally Blanton nailed five 3-pointers, Curtis and Langley canned two apiece, and Megan Mealer banked in a long bomb in the fourth quarter.

Eagleville came out with the hot hand, leading 5-0 on a pair of Lizzy Thompson free throws and a 3-pointer by MaKayla Moates.

Forrest trailed 10-7 late in the period when Blanton went off, draining three long bombs around one Eagleville field goal to give Forrest the lead for good before Curtis stole the rock and scored as the first quarter expired with Chapel Hill in front 15-12.

A Langley 3-pointer midway through the second quarter gave Forrest an eight-point lead and Curtis capped off the first half with another long bomb to give the Lady Rockets a 25-16 lead.

With just over three minutes to play in the third quarter, Curtis scored to make it an 11-point ballgame, but the Lady Eagles fought back, cutting the lead to seven points at 37-30, entering the fourth quarter.

Curtis swiped the ball again and scored to open the period and after an Eagleville turnover, Curtis was fouled and made two free throws for a double digit lead.

Haylee Ferguson canned a basket for Eagleville in what turned out to be the lone field goal in the final period for the Lady Eagles.

Curtis was red hot as she drained a 3-pointer and followed with four more free throws to make it 48-32 before Thompson broke the 7-0 run with two made free throws.

“That’s what we talked about at halftime, we wanted to make them go man, make them go man and space the floor, it’s just hard for people to guard us and match up with us when we have five guards on the floor,” Jean said. “Carissa does a great job of getting to rim, finishing and making the free throws.”

Laura Mealer was fouled and made one-of-two from the charity stripe and Curtis went to the free throw line again and canned two more to extend the lead to 17 points before Megan Mealer banked in a long 3-pointer from the top of the key to make it a 20-point game.

Forrest (11-3) took the 24-point victory to extend their winning to six games over Eagleville (6-7).

The two squads did not play last season.

The Lady Rockets will be back in action when they start a grueling six-game road trip at Sycamore on Friday, followed by a huge battle at Moore County on Saturday afternoon, before opening up District 12-AA play at Murfreesboro Central Magnet School on Tuesday.

“We have some time to figure out what’s going on with Anna’s knee and get somebody ready to take her place, the next man up,” Jean said. “I think she is going to ok, she just has to get it checked out so she can know its ok.”

The second half of the long road swing sends Forrest to Community (Jan. 17), Marshall County (Jan. 21), and Nolensville (Jan. 24).
