Few shots
The Lady Bobcats put heavy pressure on MCHS' net throughout the contest and outshot Marshall County 20-2 overall. Sophomore striker Kate Wallace led Giles County's offensive attack with two goals and an assist, while Kate McComiskey notched a goal and an assist. Addison Gowan also scored a goal for the Lady Bobcats and Carleigh Melvin registered an assist.
Senior striker Clara Wilson and sophomore midfielder Abbey Redferrin each attempted one shot for the Tigerettes (6-4-1, 2-1 District).
"Giles County is very strong defensively so it was not a surprise that we had trouble scoring, but we didn't do a very good job of possessing the ball," said Marshall County coach Mark Redferrin. "We didn't have a mental letdown though and kept competing. We've been resilient all year and didn't get down when they scored those two early goals. The girls stayed in the game mentally."
Ford does well
MCHS goaltender Alexis Ford turned in a strong performance in defeat and finished with 17 saves in the match.
"Alexi was really clutch today. She made a lot of tough saves and didn't get a lot of help from our defense. I thought she played well overall," said Redferrin.
The Lady Bobcats grabbed a 1-0 lead in the 7th minute when Wallace fired a close range shot into the left corner of the net after receiving a pass from McComiskey in the middle of the field.
Wallace and McComiskey then teamed up for a another goal three minutes later to give Giles County a 2-0 advantage. After receiving a nice pass from Wallace in front of the net, McComiskey rifled a 12-yard shot into the right hand corner of the goal.
Strong defense
Marshall County held the Lady Bobcats scoreless over the next 47 minutes of the contest, but the Tigerettes were called for a handball in the goalie box midway through the second half before Gowan lined the penalty shot into the upper right hand corner of the net to stretch Giles County's lead to 3-0.
The Lady Bobcats then tacked on another goal in the 79th minute to cap their 4-0 victory when Wallace took a pass from Melvin on the right side of the net and fired a shot just inside the far post.
