John Robert Tyree Sr.

Funeral services for John Robert Tyree Sr., 90, of Flat Creek, were held Sunday, Sept. 8, in the chapel of Doak-Howell Funeral Home with Bro. Bob Simmons and Bro. Jamie Byrom officiating. Burial, with full military honors, followed in the Rosebank Cemetery in Flat Creek.

Mr. Tyree passed from this life at his home, early Friday morning, Sept. 6, 2013, after an extended illness.

Born Oct. 25, 1922, in Marshall County, he was the son of the late Paul N. Tyree Sr. and Georgie Davis Tryee. Mr. Tyree served his country as an MP in the U.S. Army during WWII. After leaving the military, he went to work for the federal government with the Department of Agriculture, working his way up to personal manager. Mr. John was a member of the American Legion and VFW, served on the board of Rosebank Cemeteryn and was a longtime member of the Flat Creek Church of Christ. An avid outdoorsman, he loved coaching Little League baseball, loved hunting quail and dove, and fishing.

He was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Leroy Breaux; sisters, Frances (Miland) Luna, Faylene (James) Wilkerson, and Saylene Tyree; and brother, Paul Tyree Jr.

Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Emma Lee Shoffner Tyree of Flat Creek; children, Vickie (John) Manus and Lydia Breaux, all of Flat Creek, Clyde Shoffner (Jody) Tyree of Murfreesboro, and John Robert (Kathy) Tyree II of Morrison; sister-in-law, Margaret Hayes Tyree of Lewisburg; 13 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.
