James Ernie Darnell Jr., 67, of Hendersonville, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 17, 2013. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clara Musgrave and James Ernie Darnell Sr.; stepfather, Hugh F. James Ernie Darnell Jr., 67, of Hendersonville, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 17, 2013.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clara Musgrave and James Ernie Darnell Sr.; stepfather, Hugh F. Searcy; and a brother-in-law, Billy Doak Brandon.

Mr. Darnell never met a stranger, and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He loved to fish, and to watch his children and grandchildren play sports. Beginning his career at nine years old, Ernie sold Grit newspaper. His first job, at 10 years old, was delivering the Times-Gazette newpaper in Shelbyville. He worked for National Life and Accident Insurance Company, Holiday Magic Cosmetics, Proctor & Gamble, Dollar General Corp., Forst Merchandising, and American Ace Coffee. He eventually became an independent manufacturer's rep, founding the family business, James & James Company.

He is survived by a loving wife, Kathleen R. Darnell; sons, Jay (Kay) Darnell, Adam Swann, and Stokes (Natalie) Swann; grandchildren, Alex and David Darnell, and Campbell Swann; and sister, Nancy June Brandon.

Funeral Services for Mr. Darnell were conducted on Thursday, Feb. 21, from Community Church in Hendersonville.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to AGAPE of Nashville, 4555 Trousdale Drive, Nashville, TN 37204.

Hendersonville Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
