After some tough games against very stout teams at the Firehouse Subs Classic at Summertown over the weekend, the FMS Lady Rockets returned to the Field of Dreams in Chapel Hill on Wednesday night hardened, turning in a solid performance by shutting out Eagleville 9-0.
Seventh-grader Julie Williams tossed the complete game shutout in the circle for Forrest, scattering just three hits, while striking out eight and walking zero Eagleville batters.
On offense, FMS banged out 15 hits in the contest with Macyn Kirby, Meagan Mealer, and Carli Warner all going a perfect 3-for-3 at the dish.
Madi Yeager had two hits and Addison Bunty, Kaitlin Heath, Hadley Frazier, and Parker Wales all came up with one base knock apiece.
Williams tossed a scoreless first inning thanks to a great defensive play in centerfield by Bunty, who threw out Ryleigh Refno at third base, trying to stretch a double in to a triple.
In the home half of the inning, Forrest posted two runs on the board as Kirby led off by beating out an infield single and went to third on a Mealer double before Anilee Dippold walked to load the sacks for Yeager, who drilled a two-run single to left field.
Williams set down Eagleville 1-2-3 in the top of the second inning and Forrest added two more runs in the home half of the frame thanks to a two-run double by Mealer that scored Warner and Kirby after the pair of Lady Rockets had singled.
Williams mowed down the Lady Eagles in the top of the third inning, striking out the side in order.
FMS made it a 7-0 contest in the bottom of the third inning on RBI base knocks by Kirby and Mealer, plus another runner scored on an Eagleville fielding error.
Hannah Hailey doubled to lead off the top of the fourth inning for Eagleville, but once again Forrest threw the leather at the Lady Eagles when left fielder Parker Wales nailed Hailey, trying to take third base.
After a Forrest error, Williams escaped unscathed on a ground out to Mealer at shortstop and an inning ending strikeout.
The Lady Rockets (7-6) tacked on a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth inning via a two-run single by Warner to make it a 9-0 contest and Williams ended the game in style, whiffing all three Lady Eagle batters she faced in the bottom of the fifth inning.
