With just a week to go in the regular season, two of three county softball squads find themselves in thick of their respective district races, beginning with the Marshall County Tigerettes, who are on the heels of Giles County, one game back of the Lady Bobcats in the District 12-AA standings.
Tigerettes
The Tigerettes (16-7, 10-3) have been on a late season surge, winning eight out their last ten contests, including four consecutive district match-ups.
Marshall County also made a great showing last weekend at the Lincoln County Border Battle, finishing in third place.
The Tigerettes can clinch one of the top two seeds for the upcoming district tournament with a strong finish in their last three league games, having a doubleheader at home on Thursday versus Fairview, before finishing off their regular season slate on Friday versus East Hickman.
Both the district and region tournament games will be played at the higher seed's home field.
Lady Rockets
Next in line is the Forrest Lady Rockets, who pulled off a big win versus Moore County last week to pull within one game of the first place Raiderettes in the District 9-A chase.
Both teams made the Spring Fling last season.
The Lady Rockets needed some help from Cascade on Tuesday night, but the Lady Champs fell 11-8 in Lynchburg, leaving a slim chance for the Lady Rockets to wear the crown.
Forrest plays at Eagleville on Friday and they finish up their district slate with an away game at Community on Tuesday.
After a 1 p.m. game at Eagleville on Friday, Forrest will take off for Coffee County where they will play two pool games Friday night, beginning with a tough Marion County squad, followed by a late game versus Cumberland County.
On Saturday morning, the Lady Rockets will face off versus the Shelbyville Lady Golden Eagles before pool play commences at 1 p.m.
The first round of the District 9-A Tournament will be held at the higher seed before the remainder of the tournament moves over to Huntland.
Lady Bulldogs
The Cornersville Lady Bulldogs (7-6, 6-4) have played a light schedule this year, taking part in just 13 games and they find themselves in third place in the District 11-A standings.
Richland (18-11, 8-0) and Columbia Academy (30-9, 7-0) are both Class-A favorites this season, but still have a pair of games versus each other as those two contests will decide the regular season champion.
Richland will have the upper hand come tournament time as they will be the hosts in Lynnville.
