Coming off a lopsided loss to Forrest earlier in the week, the Cornersville Lady Bulldogs (3-1) got back on the winning track by beating the Riverside Christian Academy Lady Knights 44-32 at home on Friday night.

The Bulldogs (1-3) then picked up their first win of the season later in the evening when they defeated RCA 64-46 in the nightcap.

Having blown out Riverside Christian Academy in all five previous meetings between the two teams, the Lady Bulldogs had trouble shaking the Lady Knights early on in Friday's contest and held a slim 9-7 lead at the end of the first quarter with the help of six points from Kelsey Wortham.

After stretching their lead to 18-14 in the second quarter on the strength of three free throws and baskets from Britton Stewart, Carson Coble, and Samantha Prosser, Cornersville put together an 8-4 run in the third period, highlighted by treys from Stewart and Brooke Holt, to open up a 26-18 advantage.

Six straight

The Lady Bulldogs then outscored RCA 18-14 in the fourth quarter behind four points apiece from Holt, Breanne Dunkleman, Haley Stacey, and Coble to claim their sixth straight victory over the Lady Knights.

Holt and Coble both finished with nine points to lead Cornersville, while Stewart and Wortham tallied six points apiece. Stacey, Dunkleman, Ashley Umbles, and Prosser notched five, four, three, and two points respectively for the Lady Bulldogs as well.

Morgan Honey paced RCA with 10 points and Emma Campbell tallied nine points. Hailey Albert and Alyssa San Fillipo also chipped in six and five points respectively for the Lady Knights, while Megan Green had two points.

Bulldogs win

In the nightcap, the Bulldogs took a 14-11 lead in the first quarter with the help of seven points from junior point guard Tate Lowery prior to outscoring RCA 15-10 in the second period on the strength of six points from Tyler Lowery and a Jamie Crowell trey to open up a 29-21 advantage at halftime.

Cornersville still held a 44-36 lead at the end of the third quarter thanks to seven points from Tate Lowery and six points from reserve guard Wes Meadows before putting together a 20-10 run in the fourth period behind eight points from Tate Lowery and six points from Brian Lowe to pull away for the 18-point win.

"I was happy to see us close out a game. We played really well at the start of the second half, but we gave up some easy buckets at the end of the third quarter. Before the start of the fourth quarter I challenged them to play with more energy and to lay it on the line," said CHS coach Gerard Randolph.

Season's best

Tate Lowery spearheaded the Bulldogs' offensive attack by pouring in a season high 24 points. Meadows followed Lowery with 10 points and Lowe tallied eight points. Tyler Lowery notched six points as well, while Crowell and Jacob Reeves added five and four points respectively. David Looney, Austin Ridinger, and Hunter Swinney also chipped in two points apiece for Cornersville and Stone Riner had one point.

"I put Tate on the low block and he did really well. He was able to overpower their guards and score in the paint," said Randolph. "Wes Meadows also came off the bench and gave us a spark offensively and defensively."

Josh Hill paced the Knights with 15 points, while Eli Wright and Ryan Campbell added 13 and nine points respectively.
