Forrest senior goal keeper Charity Runk recently signed a Letter of Intent to attend Columbia State Community College (CSCC) on a soccer scholarship next year.

“I’m pretty excited, I think it’s going to be a really good experience to continue my education and to continue my career in soccer,” Runk said. “It’s going to be really exciting, I was at every one of Jasmine’s games with it being right down the road, so having Mom and Dad and Baylor coming to see me will be very exciting.”

Charity Runk signs with Columbia State

Forrest senior goal keeper Charity Runk recently signed a Letter of Intent to attend Columbia State Community College (CSCC) on a soccer scholarship next year.

“I’m pretty excited, I think it’s going to be a really good experience to continue my education and to continue my career in soccer,” Runk said. “It’s going to be really exciting, I was at every one of Jasmine’s games with it being right down the road, so having Mom and Dad and Baylor coming to see me will be very exciting.”

Charity will be following big sister keeper Jasmine, who was a member of the inaugural CSCC soccer team of 2018 and is moving on to Glenville State in West Virginia next season.

“Jasmine set very high expectations and standards,” Runk said. “She definitely set the bar high since she was the first goalie over there, but I think when I get over there and learn their ways and express how I do things I can be as close as she was. It’s really going to be a win-win situation.”

Charity Runk minded the goal for the past two seasons for the Lady Rockets and did an excellent job.

“It’s exciting and we are extremely happy, she is a good girl, she works hard, she plays hard, and she is a character person on and off the field,” Forrest soccer coach Nicole Pickle said. “I think a lot of times junior colleges don’t get the credit they deserve, but they are feeding grounds for bigger programs and hopefully we can continue to supply them with players and carry on the tradition.”

“It’s nice to be equated in that category with Columbia State and be a program that can send them quality athletes and that’s what our goal is.”

Runk currently has a 3.2 GPA at Forrest and plans on studying chemistry and criminal justice.

Runk had some words of wisdom for the younger girls watching her progress and moving on to the collegiate level to play soccer when she said, “I think seeing somebody else and watching how to learn the game and play the game will inspire others to further their careers in soccer.”

CSCC soccer coach Colton Bryant, who recruited Jasmine for the inaugural Lady Chargers’ team said about the getting the second Runk sister, “It’s less about the talent, it’s more about the people, the family behind it because we recruit the whole family and the Runks are an outstanding family, Jasmine has been a great character to have and I know they are two different people and we will treat them that way.”

“I think Charity brings the mindset of it doesn’t matter if I’m playing straight away or not, but I’m going to work anyway and that’s what you need in college athletics.”
