After beating Wayne County 7-0 the previous day, the Cornersville Bulldog completed the sweep of the season series by defeating the Wildcats 10-7 in Waynesboro on Saturday.

Wayne County held a 2-0 lead through the first three innings of play, but the Bulldogs scored 10 runs over the next four frames to seize a 10-2 advantage before holding off a Wildcat rally in the bottom of the seventh.

Having scored 15 runs in their last two games, Cornersville turned in another solid effort at the plate on Saturday and finished with nine hits and six walks against two Wayne County pitchers to go along with five Wildcat errors.

Leading hitters

Catcher Cody Blackburn and starting pitcher Tate Lowery each notched two hits to lead the Bulldogs offensively with Blackburn driving in two runs. Zach Richards (2 RBI), Tyler Lowery (1 RBI), Jacob Griffis (1 RBI), Aaron Fox, and Dallas Wright all had one hit apiece for CHS as well.

Tate Lowery also picked up the victory on the mound after allowing two runs in four innings of work on four hits and a walk while recording four strikeouts.

David Looney came on in relief of Tate Lowery in the top of the fifth and yielded a hit and two walks over two scoreless innings to go along with three strikeouts.

Lucas Ray (2 RBI), Logan Cole (2 RBI), and Corey Stooksberry (1 RBI) registered two hits apiece to pace Wayne County at the plate.

Catching up

The Wildcats pounced on CHS early and tallied two runs in the bottom of the first inning on three hits and a walk to grab a 2-0 lead.

Cornersville left the bases loaded in the top of the second, but broke through for four runs in the fourth inning to pull ahead 4-2. Jody Sullivan and Tate Lowery sandwiched a pair of walks around a Fox single to load the bases with no outs, before Tyler Lowery drew another free pass to cut the deficit to 2-1. Tate Lowery then scored on a RBI fielder's choice by Richards to tie the contest at 2-2 before Blackburn plated Tyler Lowery and Richards with a two-run triple.

Roaring ahead

In the top of the sixth, the Bulldogs stretched their lead to 6-2 by pushing across two runs on a Tyler Lowery single, two walks, two passed balls, and a RBI single by Jacob Griffis.

CHS continued to distance themselves from Wayne County in the seventh inning and scored four more runs in the frame with the help of singles from Wright and Tate Lowery, two Wildcat errors, a Richards RBI single, and a passed ball to forge a 10-2 lead.

Those insurance runs proved to be important, as Wayne County crossed home plate five times in the bottom of the seventh on two walks, a two-run triple by Ray, a Cole RBI groundout, a hit batsman, a double steal, and a Stooksberry RBI single for the 10-7 final.
