CHAPEL HILL — It was a tough afternoon in the Viking Classic for Cornersville on Friday, as the Bulldogs dropped a pair of games—a 13-9 loss to Alexandria-Monroe (Ind.) and an 11-5 loss to Clarksville Northwest.
Against Alexandria-Monroe, Cornersville drew first blood and scored two in the top of the first, the first of which came on a RBI fielder’s choice by Kale Andcox and a second run when Blaine Woodard scored on a passed ball.
But as quickly as the Bulldogs grabbed the lead, Alexandria-Monroe plated four in the bottom of the inning and then blew the game wide open by driving home six more in the third to take a 10-2 lead.
Little by little, the Bulldogs were able to chip back into the lead and Beau Schillig scored on a bunt single by Gage Lovell in the fourth and Logan Terry scored on an error in the fifth to cut the Alexandria-Monroe lead to 10-4.
Three more runs crossed the plate in the bottom of the fifth for the out-of-state visitors however, but the Bulldogs continued to push runs across the plate into the sixth and final inning.
Lovell and Woodard were both hit by a pitch to lead off the inning and Daniel Sellars slugged a three-run homer to cut the lead to 13-7.
Schillig tacked on another RBI when he ground out and Kale Adcox plated a ninth run when he scored on a RBI single by Kristian Malone.
While the Bulldogs connected on six hits in the game and put up a fight to their final out, Cornersville was plagued with five errors in the loss.
Tanner Pease pitched three innings and was tagged for 10 runs on seven hits, but only two of which were earned.
Woodard pitched two innings and gave up one earned run on one hit.

Northwest 11, Cornersville 5
Much like their game against Alexandria-Monroe, Cornersville grabbed an early lead against Northwest Clarksville, but saw the game slip away with errors and a big inning in an 11-5 loss to the Vikings.
In the first inning, Cornersville was the beneficiary of Northwest errors and Peyton Cherry scored on the first error of the game and then Kale Adcox and Tanner Pease both scored on a second Viking error of the inning to take a 3-0 lead.
But Northwest stormed back in the bottom of the inning to tie the game at three runs apiece after the first run scored on a passed ball, a second scored on a RBI triple and a tying run came on a sac-fly.
Northwest then took complete control of the game with a five-spot in the bottom of the second inning.
Cornersville got one back in the top of the third on a bases-loaded walk with two outs, only to see Northwest drive in three more runs in the bottom of the third.
A final Bulldog run crossed the plate in the top of the fourth inning when Kale Adcox scored on a passed ball, but that was the final run of the game to score for Cornersville.
The Bulldogs managed just two hits against Northwest—singles by Lovell and Schillig
Lovell pitched two innings and gave up eight runs on four hits, only three of which were earned, while striking out two.
Kristian Malone also pitched two innings and was tagged for three runs—none of which were earned—on two hits.
