Bettie Jackson Rawe, 72, of Lewisburg, passed away peacefully in her home after a long illness on Wednesday, April 3, 2013.

Bettie was born on Oct. 27, 1940, in Louisville, Ky. She graduated in the first graduating class of Assumption High School in Louisville in 1958 and went on to earn a BS Degree in Medical Technology from St. Louis University in St. Louis, Mo. in 1962. She worked as a medical technologist at St. Mary's Hospital in St. Louis for several years before becoming a professional homemaker. Furthermore, Bettie was an avid participant in softball, volleyball and bowling teams, both locally and nationally. Later in life she donated her many trophies to the Special Olympics programs of the Knights of Columbus of Lewisburg,

After moving to Lewisburg in 1978, Bettie became involved in the Marshall County Memorial Library as a patron and part-time volunteer employee. She was also a religious education instructor at St. John Catholic Church and a member of a knitting group which donated handiwork to the Loaves and Fishes program of the Catholic Diocese of Nashville, producing over 1,000 hats for the homeless. Additionally, she was an active member of the Marshall County Squares square dancing group and enjoyed traveling around Tennessee with her husband to dance in a variety of programs, including the annual Tennessee State Square Dance convention.

She was the daughter of the late Carl R. Jackson Sr., who died in 2000, and the late Audrey McCarthy Jackson, who died in 2005. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Eugene Earl Jackson, who passed away in 1964.

She is survived by her husband of 50 years, John F. Rawe, and her daughter, Jennifer Rawe Meyer, both of Lewisburg, and her grandchildren, Caroline Sophie Meyer and David Johannes Meyer of Hamburg, Germany, and Wiebke Elizabeth Meyer, also of Lewisburg.

She is also survived by her sister, Carol (Bob) Jackson Miller, and her brother, Carl (Sandy) R. Jackson Jr., all of Louisville, Ky., as well as two nieces and 10 great-nieces and great-nephews.

There will be a memorial mass for Mrs. Rawe in the summer at a date and time to be determined later.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Bettie's name to the Marshall County Memorial Library Book Fund.

Condolences of sympathy may be sent to www.billsmcgaugh.com.
