A family tradition: New morning host

Posted

The local radio station WJJM has a new voice broadcasting in the mornings. Taylor Chunn  “Mustain” is now the host of the morning show.

Taylor is a 2017 Cornersville High School graduate and a 2021 graduate of University of Tennessee at Martin. She gets her love of broadcasting honest. Her grandfather, Fred Mustain, was a sports broadcaster for WJJM for many years. Mayor Mike Keny worked with him and knew him well. “Fred Mustain was a sports icon in Marshall County. He was a tremendous radio broadcaster and his signature call “Holy Cow” will ring in the ears of Tiger fans forever. Like all great broadcasters he was a master story-teller who captured your attention and his friendly, folksy manner made him a welcome visitor via the airwaves into many Marshall County homes. It just feels right - there’s another Mustain that is a part of the broadcasting world at WJJM.”

Mustain passed away in August of 1997 at the age of 50. Taylor never met her grandfather but she knows what a great person he was and she gets her inspiration of the love of broadcasting from him. She uses his name while on the radio as the host of the morning show, “Taylor Mustain in the Morning.”

While attending Cornersville High School, Taylor helped broadcast numerous high school baseball games. She really enjoyed calling games and soon realized the field of study she desired to major in - Communications/Broadcasting. She also called football games and even a rodeo on Station 90.3 WUTM while attending the University of Tennessee at Martin.

Missie Haislip, owner of WJJM, said she is thrilled to have Taylor on the staff. “She is an excellent addition and a great asset to the WJJM family as she continues in her grandfather’s footsteps. She is a little bit of sunshine and we are so proud to have her.”

Tune in to “Taylor Mustain in the Morning” on 94.3 WJJM, 7 to 11 AM. She will surely brighten your day.
