The theme for Friday night’s opening session of the Lions Super Pull of the South at Chapel Hill was never trust the weatherman. “With the fear of tornado and hail in the forecast I spent quite a bit of time keeping my eyes on the sky,” Lions Club president Brian Williams said. “Safety of our crowd is the most important thing to the club.” Due to some ominous reports of potential severe weather all day, a smaller than expected crowd showed up for session one, but the Saturday night crowd was huge and lively. more

In the bicentennial year of our nation a few local men ran supped-up tractors down a track at Chapel Hill not really knowing what they had birthed. At the forefront of the event was the Chapel Hill Lions Club, who sponsored that first tractor pull that grew to national recognition by the ‘80’s and now some 42 years later, the Lions Super Pull of the South is acknowledged as one of the premier events on the National Tractor Pull Association’s schedule. more

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Philadelphia's first Super Bowl parade provided catharsis Thursday for hundreds of thousands of Eagles fans, deliriously joyful after decades without a title and relishing the national spotlight on a team that few outside the city thought could win it all. Fans clad in Eagles green jammed the streets from dawn near the stadium to an afternoon rally at the city's famed "Rocky" steps, lining up 20 deep in spots to catch a glimpse of the champs. The Eagles rode in open-top double decker buses to the art museum that Sylvester Stallone made famous for a rally nearly 60 years in the making. more
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Nick Foles did his best Tom Brady impersonation, leading a late-game comeback to cap a season that began as a backup and ended as Super Bowl MVP. Foles' journey mirrored Brady's 16 years ago and ended late Sunday night, with green-and-white confetti falling as delirious Philadelphia Eagles fans celebrated their first NFL title since 1960. more
PORTLAND, Maine (AP) — Donald Crisman has more than a half-century of Super Bowl memories behind him, from taking a 24-hour train ride to Super Bowl II to seeing his beloved New England Patriots win in overtime last year. But he says Sunday's matchup between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Patriots just might be his final big game... more
BLOOMINGTON, Minn. (AP) — Halftimes in the NFL are typically a 12-minute sprint. Players rush back to the locker room, maybe take a bathroom break, get a few words of advice from their coaches and head back out for the second half. That pacing completely changes at the Super Bowl when the elaborate halftime shows lead to a 30-minute break that leads to more time for adjustments, distractions and the need to stay loose... more
