The 2020 TSSAA State Cross Country Championship at Sanders Ferry Park in Hendersonville on Thursday capped off a great season for the Forrest Cross Country program as the girls finished in 10th place and the boys came in 17th.
“One of the kids said this is the biggest event I’ve ever been in my life,” Forrest coach Josh Webb said. “And it is, to be in the state championship is an honor no matter what sport it is, especially cross country because you are not only competing individually, you are competing as a team.”

The first round of the TSSAA 2020 Class A playoffs featured the Cornersville Bulldogs traveling to take on the Huntingdon Mustangs.
The meeting marked the fourth year in a row that the two teams have squared off in the playoffs with the Bulldogs winning in 2017 and 2018 and the Mustangs winning big last year and this year followed that pattern as Huntingdon secured a 48-8 victory to move on to the next round.

The East Hickman Eagles came in to Friday night’s first round Class 2A playoff game at Murrey E. Holton Memorial Field in Chapel Hill averaging 28 points per game, but left with just a meaningless fourth quarter touchdown versus a stingy Forrest defense that’s is allowing only 10.9 points per game on the season.
“This win is huge, we came out and played hard and we get to move on,” Forrest coach Eli Stephenson said. “There are sixteen teams left in 2A and we are one of them.”

The Marshall County Tigers hit the road on Friday for a long trip to Lafayette for a first ever playoff matchup against Macon County (7-3), the number-two seed in Region 3/4A.
And like every other first round matchup with Region 3/4A since Tiger coach Thomas Osteen took the helm in Lewisburg, Marshall County will move on to round two with a 24-12 victory in a game the visitors never trailed.

The TSSAA Division I Region 6 Cross Country Meet at Henry Horton State Park on Friday turned out well for host Forrest as both the girls’ and boys’ teams qualified for Thursday’s state championships at Sanders Ferry Park in Hendersonville.
The Lady Rockets finished in second place, less than one minute behind first place Moore County while the Rockets claimed the final state meet berth with a third place finish behind second place Santa Fe and first place Fairview.

For the second straight year the Marshall County/Nolensville regular season ending matchup had a direct consequent on the Region 4-4A playoff seeding.
The winner would enjoy a first round home playoff game with the loser traveling to the Cumberland Plateau for a date with the Region 3-4A number-two seed.
The Tigers went into the half down 14-7, but raced back for a 28-21 lead with 10:37 left in the contest before the Knights scored two unanswered touchdowns to end the game and wrap up second place in the region.

It was old-fashioned football in the mud as the Forrest Rockets travelled to Hohenwald Friday night for another Region 5-AA title tilt with the Lewis County Panthers, who scored once in the game and that was enough as they came away with 7-0 win to avenge a three-point loss at Chapel Hill last season in the regular season finale.
“Both teams came out hitting and they hit all night long,” Forrest coach Eli Stephenson said. “Both teams fought all night, it was a field position game and we just came up a little bit short.”

When the 2020 regular season began in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic in August with mask and temperature checks being mandatory there was much uncertainty of how many games would be played.
To the surprise of many, the regular season slate ended on an October Blue Moon Friday night as the Division II Zion Christian Academy Eagles came calling to Frog Bottom to face the Cornersville Bulldogs.
