The Forrest Rockets traveled to Jackson County Friday night with a chance to complete their first unbeaten regular season since 1980, but the Blue Devils outplayed Chapel Hill and came away with a 20-14 win. "I was disappointed for the seniors because it was their last chance to break it, but we've still met all of our other goals and still have several more to play for," Forrest coach Brent Johns said. "It was tough but, we don't have time to dwell on it. We have to bounce back and put our focus on the playoffs." more
For the second time in as many seasons, the 4-4A region championship and number one seed in the TSSAA state playoffs came down to the final regular season game between Marshall County and Page. And for the second consecutive season, every major media outlet in middle Tennessee was on hand to watch the Tigers (9-1, 5-0) overwhelm the Patriots (6-3, 4-1) in an anticlimactic 51-0 Marshall County victory. more
A new season means new faces on the court and Lewisburg Middle School is no exception as the Tigers put four new starters on the court and with those new players, LMS coach David Lovell invited his alma mater Columbia Academy to Marshall County on Tuesday night with a chance to improve on last season's two wins. more
The Lewisburg Middle School Tigerettes opened the 2016-17 season on the heels of an upset loss at the sectional tournament, but with an almost entirely new starting line up the home team looked like the Tigerettes of old with a 39-26 win over Columbia Academy in a game that was never in question. "It's always great to start the season with a win," LMS coach Chris Coleman said. "I felt like we had a good week of preparation coming into tonight's game. We had a good plan and the kids came out and played incredibly hard and we executed especially on the offensive end with our shot making. We scored 39 points in the first game of the season and I'm very, very pleased with that." more
For the second time this season, all three Marshall County cross country squads squared off at the Henry Horton State Park course in the final meet of the regular season, heading into yesterday's region meets at Percy Warner Park in Nashville. Marshall County High School standout Leah Hollingsworth won the girls race, crossing the finish line just under two minutes ahead of her teammate Naomi Hopper (23:38:00) to lead the Tigerettes to win. more
It's hard to believe the final week of the regular season is here. The 2016 prep football season has been a very successful campaign for all three Marshall County schools so far, but much is still at stake when they take to the gridiron Friday night. The undefeated and second-ranked Forrest Rockets (9-0, 6-0) are currently in first place in Region 4/2A and will be seeking their first unblemished regular season since 1980 when they make the long trek to second place Jackson County (7-2, 5-1) with the region title on the line. more
The FMS Lady Rockets remained undefeated for the season, beating Moore County 34-23 Thursday night at Chapel Hill before the Rockets lost a low scoring thriller 27-26. The girls went coast-to-coast on the Raiderettes, scoring the first eight points of the game and staved off many Moore County comeback attempts as the game progressed. The dynamic duo of Jenna Blanton and Carissa Curtis teamed up for 30 out of the 34 points for Forrest with Blanton leading all scorers with 17 and Curtis tallied 13. Karly Daughrity and Angela Jett scored two points apiece in the first quarter for FMS. more
The Cornersville Bulldogs lost their third straight game, falling 37-26 at Fayetteville Friday night, putting the Frog Bottom boys in a tough situation this week at Richland. "I think the guys will be chomping at the bit to get on the field against Richland," Cornersville coach Gerard Randolph said. "The guys know what is at stake this week and we want to come out and give a tremendous effort against Richland on Friday night." more
For the fourth and final time this season, Marshall County High School took on a squad from Metro Nashville when Maplewood (6-3) traveled to Preston Hopkins Field for senior night in a much anticipated matchup between the two Top 10 4A squads. And despite a slow start culminating into a scoreless game after one period, the Tigers (8-1) scored 39 unanswered points before the Wildcats tacked on two late scores on the Marshall County reserves for a 39-16 final. more
The Forrest Rockets took a major step towards perfection Friday night as they came away with a relatively easy 39-14 win at Eagleville. "That was huge," Mr. Football hopeful Slayton Wild said. "We have worked hard for this and we deserve it." Forrest (9-0, 6-0) needs a win at Jackson County (7-2, 5-1) this week to complete its first regular season undefeated slate since 1980. more
It seems a little early for basketball, but it's here and it all began on Monday when FMS travelled to Eagleville and came away with a sweep before doubling down on Tuesday with a pair of wins over Huntland at Chapel Hill. Jenna Blanton led the Lady Rockets to victory on Monday, scoring a game high 16 points in a nine-point 31-22 win over the Lady Eagles. more
The prep football season is winding down with two weeks remaining in the regular season and all three Marshall County teams have secured playoff berths, but the stakes are still sky high. The number three ranked Forrest Rockets (8-0, 5-0), coming off a much-needed bye week, are in a quest for their first undefeated regular season since 1980 and have a two road games left on their schedule, beginning this week just down the road at Eagleville. more
Football is often described as a game of inches and Lewisburg Middle School (1-7) came within inches of a win twice on Thursday night, but Cornersville Middle School (6-2) managed to hang on for the 18-16 win in the much anticipated intra-county rivalry. Persistence was the key to our win tonight," Cornersville coach Ray Stocstill said. "We didn't quit playing hard. We didn't play very well early in the game, but we kept playing really hard and had guys cramping up and everything else but they just kept playing." more
The Cornersville Bulldogs traveled to Columbia on Friday with a chance to move back into a three way tie in the region standings with a win over its namesakes from Columbia Academy and despite being outgained 378-116 in overall yardage, the visitors entered the fourth quarter tied with the undefeated Bulldogs before giving up two late scores in a 25-12 loss. "The overall plan was to come and try and win a ballgame," Cornersville coach Gerrard Randolph stated. "We felt like we could move the ball on them and added a few wrinkles through the week and a couple of them worked." more
In a long awaited rematch, Forrest and Fayetteville Middle School met again Thursday at the home of the undefeated Tigers and this time the prize was the Duck River Valley Conference (DRVC) title. Forrest's only loss of the season was to Fayetteville and the Rockets knew coming into the contest they had to stop Tiger quarterback Trey Allen, who had hurt them badly in the earlier setback. more
The Marshall County High School Tigers and Tigerettes are coming back, not in one of their historic late game comebacks, but back to Dottie E. Kelso Memorial Gymnasium on Saturday for a trio of alumni basketball games to help raise funds for the boys' hoops program... more
